Actually the challenge at the end of the article:
So, anyone up for writing about a real challenge on their blog? The challenge of fitting life around adventure or adventures around life. Or maybe even the challenge of giving up potential future happiness to live life today? "The Pros and Cons to being an Explorer."
I guess though, most people want to keep financials somewhat private (with good reasons). Also, just because I slept on the floor in a 6'x6' mud room of a house that was overoccupied just so I could save up money to take my last month long trip, and be close to the trails to train for it, doesn't mean I want any sympathy for it. It's just what I had to do, to reach a goal - it's not even something I'd recommend. Like anything worth doing, my trip took sacrifice, and my lot and life is different than others - that's not something I want to have to be jealous of others that have it easy, or brag about how hard it is for me. It's just what I did - everyone has to figure their own special snowflake way of doing it.
Meh, maybe? I dunno. As long as the next time you sacrifice for something big, you do it smarter the next go around - that would be my blog post takeaway (if I ever write it)
