Hello bikepackers, I’m not sure if this fits in with the idea of bikepacking – so judge for yourself... I’ve just published the first issue of a new digital international bicycle touring magazine. It’s called; Bicycle Traveler and you can download it for free at: www.bicycletraveler.nl . A couple of the articles are on off-road touring in Africa and Tibet. I hope you enjoy it! Happy trails, Grace Johnson

Just looking at the cover --on my crummy sell phone no less --makes me want quit my job and just ride off into the wild blue. Thanks for sharing.

The photography is great! Very inspiring. I think it would be helpful to add gear reviews and instructional pieces with the great photos in future issues.

fantastic and inspiring. thanks. The only thing I'd like to see is an online viewing option similar to that of xxc magazine where you can scroll sideways through the pages, see full two page spreads, and then zoom in to read the text sections. It makes for much easier and pleasurable viewing, especially for those of us using smaller screened laptops.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions on how I can improve the magazine, I really appreciate receiving them!
I looked into an online viewing option but most of the services charge an expensive monthly subscription fee or place a lot of advertising in the sidebar online viewer. Hopefully in the coming year someone will release a free plug-in/program that converts a pdf to an online viewable magazine.

Have you looked at http://issuu.com/ for a web-based viewing option?

Yes, we looked at Issuu - but the free option has a lot of advertising in the sidebar and without advertising there is a high monthly subscription fee.

Once you get things rolling with a decent following, you could offer free viewing along with a high quality download with a small fee, or even continue with free downloads but suggest a reasonable payment. You'd be surprised how many people are willing to pay for good content, even if it is digital.

I think this is great. Ignore those people looking for a slicker online viewable format. The fancy stuff is flaky and doesn't always work & when it does it can be slow. The PDF is pretty nice. Basic html would probably be fine as an option for those who want an online view.

Thanks again Grace, I'm not the touring type of cyclist, more into bikepacking off-road but I still enjoy reading about other peoples adventures. Maybe one I'll do a road touring trip. :-)
Cheers! Phil
