I have always admired Joe Cruz's fat bike with water bottle cages near the rear axle. So I tried to duplicate it. It was possible but not a 10 minute job like I had hoped. Got to thinking about 2 warranty replacement cages I had from Salsa. 2 of the mounting holes lined up perfectly with holes in the drop outs of my Fargo. So with my big bag of extra pannier mounting hardware and an hours work, I had them mounted up. Then I remembered the Porcelain Rocket bags I had. So now I have some mini panniers. As long as I don't bang into something hard, should work well. Will post again after I get some miles on them

Cool repurposing, looks bomber.

Scott's AC bag is a perfect fit for a 2.5L Platypus and a little food. Doing some repurposing myself...

Very very good idea. I had been worrying about loading up my front forks-- I like way less on there just because it's nice... I will have to try this. Can you speak at all to how you did it? Do you suppose there is a P-Clamp solution out there?

The dropouts on my Fargo are not solid, but have cutouts in the casting. So i took 4 3/16ths rhms and lots of nylock nuts and washers. put a washer on the ms put it through the cage the another washer and a nylock. then added another nylock with some space in between . then a washer then thru the drop out .another washer and a nylock repeat all around. i did have to turn the ms at the cassette around because the head is smaller than a nylock. it was hitting. i had some odd pannier hardware that i put on the top bolt thru the drop out and it perfectly hit the top hole on the cage. you will need to monkey with spacing to be able to open your quik release axle skewer. If you look at the pic taken from the rear it should now make sense.   not sure about using p clamps. it has to sit fairly far back to not interfer with your heel and yet it needs to be secure. I guess it would depend on your bike. The Fargo likes to be weighted up front. I dont put alot of weight on my fork. not more than a couple of pounds each side. I don't notice it. Hope this helps.
