I have noticed a good number of riders/racers using the sea to summit eVent compression sack to store sleeping kit up front. Seems like a great idea, but am wondering how people are securing it to the handlebars? Seems just a couple of straps might fail at some point. Or do people use the Revelate harness? I was told by the revelate guys at Interbike that the harness was more a Fat Bike thing, but it seems like it would work.
Thoughts? Advice? Anything?

I have an Event compression sack (think it's a sea to summit, though I would have to check) and I use Revelate's harness. The combo works just fine (I use it with a FS 26er - no fatbike). To my knowledge (for what little that is worth), the harness (+whatever bag people use it with) was one of the primary handlebar bags used in the bikepacking world (for all types of bikes), until Revelate came out with the sweetroll. There is another thread comparing the two. I like the flexibility of being able to use different size compression bags with the harness but use whatever works for you.
I have never tried to attach the compression sack to bar without the harness, though I think it possible - just have to watch for interference with the cables.

You could also use a revelate pocket and pocket clips as a light harness system. Doesn't space the dry bag away from the bars though, and would need an extra strap around the head tube for security.

I use a handlebar harness from Bolder bikepacking. They will work with you to make sure attachment points work with your setup. I forget but think it was more affordable than the revelate product but can't compare quality. For the record I have also just strapped a bag to the bars with Velcro straps (got a giant role from lowes). Never had any problems but the harness makes things a bit easier to attach and remove.

I use an OR 10L airpurge compression sack for my handlebar setup. It has a daisy chain sewn in and I keep the load very light but the stitching for the daisy chain is already starting to pull out after only the 1st trip of the season. I use 2 homemade buckle straps from spares i have had laying around forever to connect to the bars and a long velcro strap double wrapped around one of the compression straps and around the headtube. I'll attach some pics. You could do the same by using straps double wrapped around one of the compression straps. I decided to go this route because i already have 2 of the OR bags, they're relatively light, and they have a lifetime warranty so when the stitching eventually fails, I'll return the bag for a new one. i like the quick release buckles for ease of removing the bag but I'll also take a backup velcro strap for when the strap fails (which it did on my last trip) or if i break a buckle. Worst case scenario, I break a buckle, loose the velcro strap or forget it and i have to tie the bag on with the bandana I always carry.

I did the Colorado Trail with an Event 8L stuff sack and 2 straps. It worked ok. It would get floppy on me on some of the longer descents and I would have to readjust the straps at times. Got the job done though.
I now have a Revelate Harness and it is WAY more secure and easier to load/unload. Great product. Eric knows his stuff.

Technical difficulties...stinkin' pictures are upside down...stupid phone, 'puter...
this has been working out really well for me the past few weeks. it's easy, secure, light and cheap. I dig it, for what it's worth. I plan on this set-up for the GDMBR here at the end of June. if i had the money, ya i'd pop for the revelate harness..
i cinch two straps around my dry bag, 3-4" apart, centered. then i take a smaller strap, run it through a pvc pipe fitting thingermajig, under the dry bag strap, and back up through pipe fitting. then i run that same small strap over handlebars and through strap buckle.
or you could check out a picture and use your noggin. let me know if you have any questions, it's simple.

nice it works! finally...
another note - I'm thinking about running another strap through the dry bag straps and back around my stem to add a little support. it's fine as is, I just thought another supporting strap would be nice to have, I could use it elsewhere in a pinch too.
finally, it's not as jank as it looks, honest! there's a lot of room to adjust and get it dialed in. it rides great..
