A couple of weeks ago I got out for a sub 24 hour overnight trip on a loop that's been on the radar for a while.  It starts around 9k feet and goes up and over treeline three times and with winter on its way it was time to stomp it out.  Literally, since there was a lot of hike a bike.
The rain/snow had just ended when I started climbing towards Argentine Pass in the fading light to find a spot somewhere above treeline to sleep.  It was a frosty night, in and out of the bivy, so when I reached the sun on the morning climb it called for a minor trailside celebration and a shedding of clothing.
Down the trail on the otherside, along a dirt road to the base of Lenawee trail - an awesome mountain bike ride down from the top of the Arapahoe Basin Ski Area. Unfortunately, I would be pushing up too much of it.  My food supply was already starting to look meek about half way up.
With a little rationing and determination I rode up and over Loveland pass on the road before turning off onto the new paved trail along I-70.  The speed of the pavement was a welcome change after fourteen hours of snail's pace.
Overall.  It was good to get out, even if was for a short trip.  I can cross that one off my list and won't do it in that direction again.
