Imagine a AA battery that could be re-charged simply by shaking it. Throw a couple in a bike bag, ride a bumpy trail, and then pop them in the headlamp when darkness falls.

Check it out:

Doesn't sound like it's there yet, but maybe soon?

Nice tech. I'm looking at a generator hub but those batteries would be so much nicer.

10-30 button presses on a full "shake"?

Let's see...that is equivalent to having a visible headlight on for approximately how long?

I would buy it.  Just not yet.  Very cool idea.  Do you have the Faraday-effect flashlight?
Same principle.  Shake it and it stays lit for a rather long time before it starts to get dim.
The dirty little secret is that they usually put batteries in the flashlights.  Crank radios also.

You're right about the Faraday flashlights and batteries. I actually met a guy who invented and sold an American-made Faraday light a number of years ago. His didn't use a battery, but he showed me a couple of overseas knock-offs that did. He was losing a lot of sales because the fakes were "brighter and didn't need as much shaking." The real thing was pretty cool through.

Agreed that the Brother batteries aren't there yet. Maybe never will be. But I just thought that it was cool that somebody was working on "shake-a-charge" batteries because they would be SO great for mountain biking if they are ever perfected!

How about a Faraday add on for suspension forks to top-up light systems / recharge GPS etc? Wonder how viable that would be....its a long time since my Electrical Engineering class (and I sucked at it!)
