This issue of Dirtrag had a review of a Carousel DW bag set and Issue 51 of Singletrack Magazine reviewed a set from Epic Designs. It is great to see (semi)mainstream publications picking up on the concept of modern bikepacking. As a side note, Singletrack features a bikepacking story of some kind at least every other issue. Whether it is hut-to hut, sleeping in a bivy bag or riding in Exotic locations

I don't have the issue in front of me, but this months Adventure Cycling mag has an article that mentions a few of you who post on bikepacking.net

Update-have it front of me now,  small article on the Tour Divide Race-mentions Jill Homer, Chris Plesko, Matthew Lee & Jay & Tracey Petervary

I just received the latest issue of Mountain Bike Magazine, and they have a main article about bikepacking.  Seems pretty all-inclusive, a lot of good information.  They give a good list of items/equipment to use.  They don't have the article up on their website yet, though.  I figured there is probably some people from this site included in the article, or contributed in some way.  If so, speak up!

Heading back to New Zealand in about 3 hours after two months of fun on the GDMBR. Mihjt be able to order the correct issue over the net.

Hey Multisportscott, it's going to be the November 09 issue.  My copy doesn't show a specific number, though.  On the front it says "The Best", and under it is
>3-Day Escapes
>Unsactioned Races
>Creathive Facial Hair

They also build a custom bike for $2667.  Hope you're able to find and order it.  I just checked the website, and the article isn't up yet.  It may pop up on there after a while, if you're not able to find the issue.

Thanks Cereal Killer,
The one I bought has "Go For it" as the main tag line.
I couldn't find a issue number or month when i posted the original enquiry but have just seen a date on the "in this issue" page. It says this is the November Issue.
It is Mountain Bike magazine isn't it?

Hi again Cereal Killer, that is weird, my November copy of MBM has the same photo but different txt. I notice also that yours has a sub-title of "Supplement to Rodale, Inc."
I will contact Rodale and see if I can get a copy. they are the publishers I think.
Thanks again.

Nice to see that Singletrack mag is getting the approval of riders I can relate to. I think the guys who took it into print have done an excellent job over the last ten years since I left the fold. Does anyone remember its forerunner website GoFar? That was my baby...

I have been out of the mountain biking loop for about ten years, so I'm just getting back into it. Since suffering a Transverse Myelitis late last year and fortunately making an almost complete recovery I have decided to get back to some sort of fitness. The bikepacking end of the spectrum was always my sort of mountain biking, although I mainly did day trips. I've been left with maybe 80-90% of my previous mobility in my legs and am determined to do as much as I can with them that having a young family will allow.

I am genuinely heartened to see so much bike packing and adventure biking going on out there, and I'm both learning fast and being inspired by sites like this and the many blogs I've found over the past few months. It's also great to see this kind of riding getting more and more mainstream coverage, not to mention its own specialist (e-)publications such as XXC.

I remember GoFar! That was a long time ago...

DoctorRad = Shaun?

Either way I am glad you are getting back into biking and bikepacking.

Shaun is still back in Calderdale, running a web design and hosting company. I've been having my 'Wilderness Years' phase, but unfortunately not in an 'escaping to the wilderness lots' way. Time to spend a lot more time out of the house.

There are two versions of Mountain Bike -- the one subscribers get, and the one sold on newsstands. That's why some of you can see the article and some can't. The "Riding Loaded" story ran in the November issue sent to subscribers. Not sure if it will run in a newsstand version in December, but I wouldn't be surprised.

The piece is mine. I've posted a pre-production pdf of it here:

http://issuu.com/digaaron

This has a few rough edges, and the final version featured my completed captions, but it's 95% of what ran in the printed mag.

There is also a bunch of web-only, spillover content here:

www.mountainbike.com/ultralight

Lastly, my older (though still relevant) page on ultralight riding is here:

www.adventurecycling.org/ultralight

Cheers,

Aaron

Thanks Digaaron for the contribution.  I really enjoyed the article in the magazine, and the part on adventurecycling.com is good too.  Learned a lot.  Do you have any more articles or anything coming up?  If so, let us know.  Can't read enough about bikepacking, especially now that winter is coming.

Picked up the newest Mountain Flyer this weekend & a write up in there about the Tour Divide, looked at the new Bicycle Times & see a little write up on bikecamping also, it's catching on!

Which issue of Mountain Flyer?  I like reading that mag, even though I'm a long ways away from the area.  Hopefully one of these days I can relocate to somewhere in the region.

Just read the MF article today while sipping the caffeine in the local book store. Nice TD writeup - short and scant on details but some photos of bp dot net luminaries and mentions of others. Not sure how Matt Lee stopped moving long enough to get his pic snapped. Chris, Jill, and the tandem team and others get a mention...
