Cool report. Thanks Casey.
I know that "outsider" feeling you refer to. On a family camping trip in that area a number of years ago, we were stalked by a couple of seedy-looking locals for a bit. A little unsettling when your with your wife and young kids. All ended up fine though. Perhaps I should invest in a set of non-Cailfornian license plates for any future visits - LOL!

Oh man, that's nuts. Glad everything turned out alright. And ya, California license plates will definitely draw out the crazies in Montana. Maybe slap a large "F#&@ California" magnet on your car. That'll at least confuse them for a few days while you're able to enjoy the rest of your trip, and make a proper get-a-way.

it's just the small-mindedness some suffer from. Generally, once I get to talking with the locals they'll decide I'm okay. It's just a bit of a fad for some to have a blanket dislike of Californians. Whatever, I've met plenty of Californians I'm not that fond of myself. But that's no different than anywhere else.

Nice Casey, Been thinking about a trip over that way, been exploring the salishes lately and occasionally get some great views across Koocanusa
Been looking at the PNT maps for some connector ideas, man that trail goes up and down.

Ya, the PNT is pretty severe up and down from Glacier through the Selkirks. I've come across it a bunch in the Yaak. It would be an interesting route to complete on a bike. I'd really like to explore some more ridge trails in the Yaak. Especially up by Northwest Peak, which has a lookout on it, and from Mt Henry past Lost Horse Mtn.
