I spent a few days exploring the Chilcotin Mountains last week with Coldbike and his kids. This was my first kid-spedition so I learned lots! The mountain bike touring potential in the Chilcotin area is amazing and I am already scheming about a return.

I've posted photos here:  http://www.flickr.com/photos/vikapproved/sets/72157634759352023/

If you are anywhere in striking distance of this part of BC and like to bikepack I definitely recommend you check it out.

Awesome! I'll be up there in a few days. I'm going the opposite direction, I'll drive west up the Bridge River to the end of the road, then hike across the alpine to a river heading north, then packraft / hike down this until it hits the Lord River. This flows north 20 km into Taseko Lake. From there I'll get on my bike and head back to Warner Pass and then down to Gold Bridge.

If you go to Google Earth you will see a photo beside Trigger Lake that's almost exactly the same angle you took.

Cool that you did that with kids! I'm trying to figure out stuff to do with mine. They'r still a bit young but we will be doing our first "wild" camping trip this summer. They just cant get enough of camping so I figure it's a good time to introduce them to the real thing now.

I think the key is to match the capabilities of the kids with the terrain. This trip was a bit too hard and we'd take them on a dirt road tour next time to make the riding easier.

BTW - links are fixed. Thanks for catching that!

Nick, enjoy your trips with your kids.  Mine have been backcountry camping since they were weeks old.  This trip was great for them, and Tadhg got much better at riding, it was just a little more technical than I anticipated.  I have taken them both on rides before, just nothing quite this long or rough.
The kids take on it all should be ready some time early next week.
