But, can I break it?
That's really the only question I want answered.

Hey, BioPace was a perfect match in technology for 'U' brakes. I had both!
...most advanced...blah, blah.. but to they wear longer than plain old steel chain rings?

For those of us too young/young in bike experience to know, can someone explain what "Biopace" was? I occasionally hear references to it being a disappointment, but nothing more.

bio_¡? The oval shaped chain ring was faster. Acceleration comes from pushing down on the pedal. More teeth during the down stroke, less teeth between down strokes, means more time accelerating. It was abandoned because it trashes knees quickly.
In the old day one chainring existed. Looks like we are going back to one chainring. A few more years and we will have internal geared bottom brackets, instead of internal geared hubs

I saw someone with a modern day equivalent of Biopace recently on a 1x10 setup - tempting...

Bio pace was discontinued because that stuff doesn't really do what they claim. Elliptical rings have made an appearance at least 4 times in the last 100 or so years.
