I'm Bill, and I live in Houston. I like to mountain bike up and down the techy stuff. But, I also used to be a backpacker and like an epic adventure more than most, and I enjoy grinding gravel, so I'd like to do some bikepacking. I found this site while looking for info on the Chaparral trail up near Dallas.

I have ridden some of said trail and we are looking to do the full thing out and back soon.

I am in. When? Yesterday I finally got a bead on a Caddo grasslands campsite right on the trail just this side of Ladonia. You have probably seen it.

I'm Scott living in Frisco, Colorado.
I found bikepacking.net while doing research for a 4-night Paradox trail ride that my friends and I did last September 2011. That one wasn't really bikepacking as we were supported by a friend' who would drive a camper and trailer with our food and beer from campsite to campsite.
But this site led me to the Grand Loop concept and the Colorado Trail Race and I can't seem to get these things off the brain. I love backpacking, so bikepacking seems even better. I've always been into long, wandering rides but this site has opened up whole new possibilities.
I don't have any real bikepacking gear yet, but I did complete my maiden voyage last Wed/Thurs with everything strapped on my back. I'll post a quick trip report in a new forum thread as I cannot seem to register for the wordpress account needed to post as a "trip report."
Thanks to all the contributors for the valuable knowledge you have shared and the inspiration more adventure.

Hi! My name is Kirk and I been mountain biking for only about 4 years and currently ride a 2010 Titus FTM. I've been an avid backpacker for much longer and recently thought about combining the two (what a novel idea!!) I thought I was being original and when I told my twin brother about a trip I was planning for Sept. He said "Oh.....bikepacking?" "yeah.....sure. Hey that's a pretty good name for it." His response, "No, that is the name for it.". "Oh it already has a name?". "Yeah dude. Sorry, you didn't come up with that one."
He then told me to check this site out, so here I am.

Hey y'all-what a great forum and site for my new favorite sport! I've been a horsepacker, backpacker, and now a bikepacker and lovin it. Started mountain biking about 20 years ago but then did more backpacking in the last 10 years. My last 75 mile trip thru Yosemite had me limping out the last 25 miles with plantar fasciitis--OUCH!!! During my recovery I dusted off the ol' Gary Fisher and found I could ride without pain. Then I put on a rack and panniers and hit the Midwest Rail Trails. I have to say I am really blown away with the rigs I see here. I was never really an ultralight-I like some comforts. I'm getting some ideas now on weight distgribution that I'll try on my upcoming George Mickelson trip. Thanks for all the good advice posted here. Happy trails ;^)

Hey, CJ5, what part of the midwest are you lost in? I'm in east-central KS. If you're ever up for some good gravel riding and you're in the area, let me know!

Hi there from a Spaniard, lurker since a couple months ago, think I discovered this from a thread called 'Sick as a dog, show me your adventure racing gear' on a board called singletrack, probably got there following some bikepacking entry from the Salsa Fargo thread on mtbr.com.
Done some road touring across central Europe but got hooked by the option of combining MTB with touring to go, well, further. Enjoying a lot the MYOG threads and got a couple projects finished already, so thanks to all the contributors for generously sharing their designs and ideas.

Hi, I'm Campbell. Live in central Scotland and been an MTBer for 13 years, roadie for 10 and been hiking/backpacking for nearly 10 as well! Also recently taken up road touring but built up a Salsa Fargo as my touring bike and off-roading keeps calling to me so here I am! lol.
From various MTB rides over the years Scotland has some potentially good routes that I am looking forward to trying out in the coming years!

Orale.
My name is Eugene Smith, I live in southern New Mexico, specifically Las Cruces. I'm an experienced UL backpacker and have somehow gravitated towards getting out on a bike as of late. Grew up on bikes, but the last 7 years have been mostly bikeless. Besides the goal of saving my knees a bit from all the trail running I do, I desire to see my state from a different perspective, hopefully by bike.
Looking forward to picking up new ideas, beta, wisdom, and contributing some here as I move into bikepacking.
Peace.

Hi, my Alex I live in Hemet, CA I have been riding mountain bikes for a few years. I started riding short routes to lose weight and have fun doing it. The rides started to get longer and then one day I was online on the netflix looking and I saw ride the divide so watched it. Cool stuff. Maybe week or to later I met Brendan from Siren he was at racer and chaser race demoing the backpacking gear. I found his shop was only 20 minute drive from house so started buy the gear. I have went on one overnight. I rode up to campsite and met my wife there didn't want to the first one solo. Still trying too dial the gear and get someone to go with me.

Hi, My name is Casper and I live in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. I am quite new to bikepacking but I am really starting to get the hang of it. Last month I did the TransArdenne on my mountainbike. The TransArdenne is a track that runs straight through the Belgium Ardenne. The route we took was 180km in total. The way we planned is was 1 car at the beginning and 1 car at the finish. During the tour we stayed in hotels and had all our meals prepared. It was a fantastic experience and we are looking for something a bit more adventurous. That is how I came with the idea of bikepacking. One of my riding buddies is from Hoylake in the UK and after some thinking a new idea came to mind. What if we could do the TransWales next year This is also the reason for me to sign up here. I want to learn and read and contribute in preparation for that trip. My main ride is a Dekerf Implant which I absolutely love. Last weekend I did a two day tour in Malmedy (Belgium) and it just loves the techy stuff going down. Casper

Hey all,
My name is Andy, and like most people, am new to this Forum and Bikepacking. I grew up in Flagstaff, AZ where I spent most of my childhood backpacking, camping and going on river trips around the four corners regions. I moved to Tucson for college and that is where I got into bike riding. I started out racing triathlon, then moved into MTB'ing, then into long, stupid rides like riding to Mexico and back.
Currently I live in San Francisco and have been struggling to find enough time to ride. I recently picked up a Fargo and some bags, and plan on exploring as much of the bay as I possibly can by bike.
As a side note, I have ridden with Chad Brown a couple of times when I lived in Tucson, he is a great guy. Hopefully we get the chance to ride again some time.
Regards,
Andy Wyatt
