I learned that Fall in Austin is amazing.  I learned that riding with a few friends all day with all your equipment makes the normal trails extra exciting.  I learned that calling a friend and telling him to put the lights on and ride out to meet us with a 6 pack of beer is brilliant.

I also learned that I hate sleeping on the ground.  I am a hammock user.  I lent my hammock, underquilt, and tarp to my friend who didn't have anything but really wanted to camp with us.  I just bought a Thermarest Neo-Air to try out.  I was hoping I would like it with my tarp and really lighten my load.  While it was lighter, I got zero sleep and woke up with sore shoulders and hips.  Totally not worth it.

I just ordered a new sleeping quilt that is down, will take me to 30 degrees, and weighs only 16 oz headbang  That's right, 1 pound!  Anyway, it was worth crappy sleep just so I knew that it wasn't going to work for me.

Good times.

Less expensive, every bit as good (if not better).  Give Mike and email and check him out.  Super highly recommended.  Tell him Travis sent you!

Thanks for the link.  The quilts look pretty good and his prices are very reasonable.   I've read some of his posts on Hammock Forums but hadn't checked out his website.

HAMMOCKS RULE!!!

If anything is worth a weight penalty, that's it.
I have a 1000 dollar mattres on my bed.
I seriously think my hammock set-up is more comfortable.
How is that not worth a pound or two?
BTW, I've had three reconstructive surgeries on my left shoudler, so this is a bit of a "sore" point for me.  Sleeping on the ground HURTS!
