Looks nice, but note that it doesn't run on AAs like the LD20. It needs CR123As or a rechargeable Li-ion. Depending on the trip, it may or may not work for you.

I finished the 2013 TD. I did the whole damn thing, excluding the 2013 detours, in good style and—as far as I know—totally in accordance with the rules.

usb rechargeable... which would work from my dyno hub.
where is there an rei link? love my ld20, and the 16 hour burn time on 100 lumens is nice...
edit, nevermind, found it. out of stock. pretty good price for that light.

I have been using one on my handlebar. It comes with a proprietary rechargeable 18650 type battery that is the only one that can be charged by the built in usb charger. I also bought a couple of panasonic 18650s and an xtar single cell usb charger so I can carry extra batteries.
I have been happy with the light so far. I think its a good combination of brightness, size, battery weight. I used it during Huracan 300 this year and the battery made it through the night using a combination of High (not turbo) and medium settings and didn't have to change the battery until just before sunrise (also started about an hour before sunrise so it lasted through the equivalent of 1 night. I was using a fenix e21 aa light on my helmet and these were sufficient.
I would buy another one at the rei sale if they had them. I got mine at the store and it was the one on display so who knows when they will actually have them again. I think it would be the perfect light if you have a dynamo.

just ordered 2. I think these will be awesome. cr123a batts are so small/light Im just going to start the ctr with maybe 2 boxes of 12 and Ill be set the whole race and throw away spent ones in towns. this has better battery life than my current pd32ue and Ill be able to go at brighter settings. win win

Good info! How was the beam? Spot or flood. Bright center spot or even throughout light cone?

Okay, will this run on auxilliary batts - eg Power monkey cache batt. I'm planning out my ITI lighting, this might be a solution.

The beam was pretty even to me, anyways. I brought one for the Highland Trail Race, and have used it on a couple of training rides. I'm really impressed with it so far. I was using it for riding single track at night, and had no issues at all, and that was on the high setting (400 lumens) not turbo (950 lumens). Battery life seemed to be about what they advertised. I was on high for well over 3 hours and it didn't seem any dimmer to me.
Area54 - you can use an external battery to recharge the light, but you can't actually run it off external power.
