This is the tank that's been seen on some of their ambassadors' rigs over the past year or so. Just released: https://www.revelatedesigns.com/index.cfm/store.catalog/cockpit/MagtankIt looks different enough to justify the continuation of the existing version - an an addition to the line, as opposed to a replacement. Tough to choose.

As someone who has had trouble with the zipper on the last incarnation, I would be all over the news style. A big improvement!

I have the earlier (zipped) version and think its quite nice. I also have feed bags on either side of this and think the Magtank would crowd my current cockpit. On another rig, I may consider this bag and pass off the gastank to my wifes bicycle.

I'd hesitate to put a phone in this version.
Magnets and expensive electronics are not a good combo.

Overall I like the re-design, but I wondered about the magnet vs. electronics as well.

Come to think of it, both my handlebar bags on my other bikes use magnetic closures and I usually keep my phone in there. Though, the phone isn't right against the magnet.
I'm thinking it's probably fine. Doesn't the magnet effectively cancel itself out, when it's shut (positive/negative polarity)? I'm no physicist.

I am currently in the process of replacing a failed water resistant coil zipper on my frame bag. Plan is to move towards a standard heavy 8mm / 10mm tooth zipper, but I too was contemplating binning the zipper on the frame bag and trying to come up with a different closing mechanism. Velcro / poppers ...
Seems to me that the zipper is the weakest link on many a bike bag related item. I have a perfectly good gas tank bag, but which has a failed coil zipper and the way it has been manufactured makes replacing the zipper virtually impossible.
When I make my bags now, I anticipate how you replace the zipper if it fails without effectively unpicking and remaking the bag.
Keen to hear from other closing mechanism ideas that people have come up with.

I had one of my frame bag zippers replaced yesterday. It was a #8 or something quite large. Will never have a zippered frame bag again. Roll top closure is the way to go.

I didn't think I'd be alone in having suffered zipper failure frustration. A roll top closure?
