I re-purposed my Pugsley's Porcelain Rocket bags to my On One Scandal 29er. I'll be getting a custom made frame bag later in the year.

Riding with Mr. Porcelain Rocket himself... headbang

The Scandal makes a great 29er MTB for trail riding and bikepacking:

- IGH/SS/FG compatible
- stiff/light frame
- loads of tire clearance & mud room
- ready for a rear rack + discs
- takes a dropper post
- decent sized main triangle for a frame bag
- low cost
- tapered HT [allows adjusting HT angle]

Nice setup, Vik. Nice writeup on the blog, too. If it were me, I wouldn't even bother getting another frame bag, but since Scott is right there anyway...

Got my Scandal 29er mostly packed for a ride to explore some trails/logging roads near home.

Just gotta load up the water and food now.

Looking forward to some fast dirt riding with a buddy... headbang

It will be interesting to see what the route looks like after spending a bunch of time planning from topo maps.

I'm working on a custom frame bag from Scott at Porcelain Rocket, but that will have to wait until the TD rush is over at PR HQ... Wink

What is the cover on your stem for?

It's just cosmetic...no practical purpose.

Add a lil padding and it could be very practical....

In theory, but in decades of MTBing I've never taken a stem to any sensitive region so it's not a risk I worry about a lot.

Looks great - I would love to try an Alfine hub on my Rig.  One thing, please tell me you've got clear tape or something underneath those hose clamps on your fork legs!  Can't see anything in the photos, and my inner bike nerd is not dealing with that very well...

No tape under the hose clamps. Are you worried about doing structural damage or just cosmetic damage?

One of the guys I met earlier this year used heavy duty plastic zip ties. He works in telecommunications and I think he said its the kind of thing they use for strapping stuff onto things in high wind areas. Aerials and the like. No way he reckoned they would fail. He was right. Think they may have even had metal clickers in them, but they would have been a bit easier on the paint than a hose-clamp/radiator clip.

Great looking setup.  I'm a total newb here so I have what might be a silly question:
Who makes the bags you have on there?  Pretty sweet looking.

Scott from Porcelain Rocket made those bags. The framebag is actually for a different bike [shown above] which is why it doesn't fit my 29er frame perfectly. I'm getting a custom frame bag made for this bike, but just waiting for the summer bikepacking rush to pass before I bug him for it.

That set up looks great!  Exactly how are the cages attached to the fork?  Looks like hose clamps, but are they just wrapped around the cage and fork, or is there more too it?  Can you post a close up pic?

Here you go. Just hose clamps and a bottle cage. I made some shockcord retention loops to keep the bottles from jumping ship on a bumpy trail. So far the cages haven't budged and the bottles have stayed firmly in place.
