Some friends and I took another trip up to Arkansas this weekend to explore some more trail.  We ended up getting everything we wanted and a little more.  Here is a link to the video shot from my camera.  It was a total of 3 nights and 4 days.

Im planning a similar weekend run.
Do you have a map of where you went?
How many miles did you cover?
Where did you start?

We sort of had a map.  We used the Womble map as well as the Ouachita Race map to help with navigation.  We got off the map for a while to check out other trails that we came across and ended up getting a bit lost.  It wasn't that big of a deal since Arkansas isn't exactly Colorado or Alaska and we had plenty of food and shelter to get us through a couple days if we needed to.

I'm not sure on the mileage since none of us brought computers.  I can say that you can easily do the Womble in one full day (loaded down with gear) and then the Ouachita is much slower and much more difficult.  It's amazing how different the 2 trails were.  There is a LOT more climbing on the Ouachita.

All in all I loved the trip.  I wish there was more like it near Austin.

Oh, and we started at the Hwy 27 Fishing Village and jumped on the Womble.

It was a great trip out there with all four of us  icon_biggrin. Here are some handwritten directions of the route we took. Some of it is vague.

From Hwy 27 Fishing Village, turn right onto Hwy 27 across lake
Turn Left onto Womble all the way to the end.
Turn Left onto OCT (Oucahita Challenge Trail)
OCT T's into 270, turn Right
Turn Left just a little down the road (you'll see the paint marker on the tree and a small wood bridge)
Enter Big Brushy Camping Area
Ride to back of campground to get on trail
Cross Creek about 10-15 times
Up and around Mountain
At 3-way intersection go Right
Follow OCT to a "T" on it's side.
Conitune on OCT and get on an un-marked fire road with a short gate in front. This fire road goes over a big climb and curls around counter clockwise so you end up heading east, The road goes down, crosses a cement stream crossing, then gets better in condition dumping you out to a "T".
Turn Right. This is 48.
Turn Left when 48 T's into 88. You'll soon see the Oden Ranger Station on your left.
Take 88 into Oden and turn R onto 379. (Be sure to stop at the little store right there on the corner)
Go 2.3 miles and turn Right onto N. Gaston Mountain Rd (dirt road). It has some nice steep rollers
Turn Right onto Southfork (68) at the T.
Go 3.4 miles and turn Left at brown sign which shows for Sulphur Lake.
Enter Womble at mile marker 31 for pure goodnes all the way back to Hwy 27 Fishing Village.

Thanks to our buddy for writting up these directions.

Dude, we took a LEFT onto the OC, not a Right.  See, this is why we got lost in the first place!
