I also rather like this set-up from Joff Summerfield of the UK, and his choice in headgear!
Note the packs on the frame.
Ride safe,
Hans

Joff is on his 2nd round-the-world tour and went right through my county and I missed a chance to meet him! Bummed!

Chilcotins Set Up August 2014. 4 days/3 nights.
All gear on the bike. Food and bear spray in the back pack.
I made all the bike bags.

Decided to replace the 26" Zesty with a 29er Cube carbon HT.  Setup worked really well on a recent 3 day trip

Only thing that did not work as expected was the dynamo hub.  Works great, but my average speed was ~ 7-8mph and therefore a fair amount of time was spent at speeds below what was needed for the hub to work.  In future, will also take an AA battery flash charging device that I can use to keep smart phone

A little off-topic, but that rock looks amazing! Is there any climbing or bouldering on that beach in Iceland? Looks rad!

Still old school, but a couple of friends convinced me to take the Pugsley on a bikepacking trip and I had a BLAST! Setting it up for serious backcountry expeditionary cycling with front bar bag, 2 more cages on the fork, GPS bracket (for my Garmin eTrex 20), Cygolite Epilion 800 headlight and maybe, eventually Jones H-Loop handlebars. I think I have time for one, maybe two, more trips before the snow and buckshot start flying!

Oh yeah, we gonna have some fun!

Ride safe,
Hans

My 2014 Ti Fargo on the climb up to Richmond Peak in Montana this summer. Clearwater Lake is in the background.

That's a nice looking Fargo.

I sold mine (pictured above) so I could fund a Krampus.

I've since added a Rohloff.

Thanks! At this point, I think the next step would be a Ti Fargo that works with a 29+ wheelset. A Rohloff is on my "someday" list. I have an Alfine 8 on a commuter bike right now that's been interesting to use.

having ability to go 29+ is what led me to the krampus. i was looking at going to a 29+ front on my fargo... and the krampus came up for a good price. i looked at the ECR too, which would be more fargo like, but i wanted the higher BB as my fargo was my main MTB.

bmike - How have you liked the transition so far?  I am looking into going fat, but not sure if I should go Pug or ECR/Krampus.

Krampus isn't really fat. I have a pugs that I'd call fat. Several locals have Ice Cream Trucks which I consider obese. The krampus is chubby.

Love it so far. The wheels and tires roll really well on dirt and singletrack, and the bike is just fun.

I looked at ECR but coming from the Fargo I wanted more MTB and less touring bike.

My Yeti ARC "Joan of ARC" I bought for bike packing. This is from my first big trip on the Ozark Trail. Works perfect for the role.
