Doing a 5-day trip of GAP/C&O from Pittsburgh to DC, 340 miles. Been following this site for years but never posted. Posted this on the "Personal Setups" thread to get some feedback but it still hasn't shown up so since I'm getting close to my trip I thought I'd try here to get any feedback. I've learned so much from this site and you the experts who contribute just by lurking over the years that I hope you can maybe give me some last minute feedback. I'm sure my trip will be fine since the GAP/C&O is never too far from assistance, but either way a five day, 350 mile solo trip is still an undertaking, so here’s my setup
Bike – Fuji Cross Comp, stock. Avenir clip-on fenders
Handlebar bag – Revelate Sweetroll w/sleeping bag, clothes. Also Sea to Summit bag w/Thermarest and clothes
Frame Bag – Iberia. Nalgene, camp mug, esbit & fuel, headlamp, two tubes, CO2, tire levers, batteries, flashlight, 2 Clif bars, patch kit
Front fuel tank – Profile Designs. Snacks/Suntan lotion/GPS
Seat Fuel Tank – Eleven81. Cables, First Aid kit, Bike Lights, Charger
Seat Bag – Revelate Viscacha. Tent, Raingear, Tarp, Groundcloth, Spare Kit, Camp towel
Fanny Pack on top of seatbag – EastPak. Solar charger, Headnet, bugspray, batteries
Because of my skinny drop bars I can only use about 50-60% of the Revelate Sweetroll capacity, which is why I have the fannypack on top of the seatbag. I’m trying to figure out how to drop stuff or reconfigure something to get rid of it. I don’t want to wear a backpack at all but am considering wearing the fannypack since it rides low and shouldn’t cause back pain.
I can buy food along the way as there are enough places to stop. I can also refill water pretty regularly but there are some long sections w/no refill and summers in the DC area are notoriously brutal.
I’m a relative newbie at this, did 100 miles of the C&O 20 years ago on an old MTB, but feel free to give advice or criticize.

Looks pretty good. I would go with the widest tires that fit. It can be pretty rough. And soft if wet.

Thanks harryonaspot, I'm running 30's. I could widen to 32 or maybe 34's but right now the forecast looks pretty good. I'm leaving Sat and plan to ride through the following Wed. Might get some random afternoon t-storms but I'm a mountain biker at heart so I'm no stranger to handling a bike in muddy conditions. Plus the super-long days w/15 hrs of sunlight will play to my advantage if mud slows me down. I only have to do ~65 or 70 miles a day so I think I should have plenty of daylight as long as I can get my lazy arse up early  And oh by the way, I've lost the fanny pack on top of the Viscacha by getting rid of a few things and rearranging my sweetroll. |

Overnighter last weekend on the El Mar. Jones bars, Bolder Bikepacking frame bag ( custom), everything else is just directly strapped to bike. No issues and tons of fun.  |

For on road, gravel and short single track. Stock Raleigh tamland. Myog bags. I ended up having to redo the strapping on the seat bag to keep it from sagging onto the rear tire. I routed it through the seat rails and that solved the problem.

2013 Surly Karate Monkey. Custom frame bag by a buddy of mine who does custom sewing on the side. I first built it up single speed, 44x17, ran it like that for a few hundred miles, wasn't doing great things for my knees so then built it up as it is currently, 2x9 XT. Salsa woodchippers, Selle Anatomica saddle, its a comfortable ride   |
