A careful shopper could do quite well at REI.  In May I bought a Cannondale sl4 at the garage sale. It was $400 instead of $750.  Not a scratch on it.

Just picked up the Mountain Hardware Fuild 26 for $60 with shipping (free) and tax (http://www.rei.com/product/833656/mountain-hardwear-fluid-26-pack-2011-closeout).  Seems pretty similar to the talon, and people around the internet seem to have good things to say about it as a biking pack.

I have fond some very good REI deals during their "scratch and dent" sales. Its a bit of a madhouse, but I got a great 40 degree down bag that packs super small for $50 last year. That Mountain Hardware pack is a good looking buy, too.
