I used on my trip a San Rafael Wilderness Guide from Brian Conant.(
www.brianconant.com) It's waterproof paper shaded relief topo, very well done. A Los Padres Nat. Forest would work though. Most of the trip was on fire roads closed to motor vehicles, with a couple of white knuckle singletrack decents thrown in. I stayed in national forest campgrounds each night. I had a fire 3 out of 4 nights. This country regularly has campfire restrictions imposed at some point during fire season. I personally would not build a fire at Painted Rock after the grass fully dries out.
The blur was a bit "twitchy" on the front end.
