Just an FYI,
I recently saw a Steripen combo pack on the shelf at the local Costco for $50.  It came with some sort of a pre-filter and a lexan-type bottle.

I'm not familiar with the various models so I can't offer much more info

I don't know what the question is - but the answer is: Lubrication!

Thanks for the heads up $50 is a good price - sounds like that is the same combo I got at REI for $90.  I have been using one for a while and it has worked well so far.  The only thing I'm not comfortable with is that you rely on the battery in it to be able to filter water.  Without a spare or a working spare you can't filter water.  So I still carry a few iodine pills as backup.  But pretty happy overall so far.
