If you are going to tour on the Divide not race it would you carry the Harness vs the Sweetroll

to carry your sleeping bag and tent??

this is presuming all your clothing etc goes in seat bag!

Weigh in

As always I appreciate the comments!

Flat bars or drops? Changes the answer. I have both.

Harness and dry compression bag. You will likely want the wide woodchipper bars to get a bit more room up there.

This was my previous setup:

This is my current setup:

For me the harness works better with drops, although some folks run the sweet roll with the chippers.

Harness:

Sweetroll:

Harness with 20l dry bag on the Fargo in the back (my old bike, sold to a friend)
Sweetroll with my old Pocket on my Krampus in the front (my new bike)
Sweetroll like setup from Porcelain Rocket in the middle on my friend's Voodoo.

Harness can hold more, of varying shapes, in your own dry bags, of nearly whatever size you might need.
Sweetroll comes in a couple of different sizes, and its a waterproof dry bag. It rolls from the ends, making use with drop bars (IMHO) tricky (although plenty of people use them with drop bars).

I have the older sling and pocket. Same concept as the harness.

I have a 2013 Fargo 2 so don't know which woodchippers I have
anyway would you go with the harness over the Sweet roll and or do you like the Porcelain rocket harness  better or no

Also what are you guys running on you forks with the anything cages from Salsa?

thanks  again for the info

Nothing on my forks. My friend has some of the anything cage bags from porcelain rocket and he loves them.

Woodchipper i would get the harness and then size a drybag to fit.

What size Fargo? I have a medium and had the narrow woodchippers. I swapped them out to wider ones.

With drop bars and harness I carry sleeping pad and bag in the dry sack in the harness. I tuck in extra camp layers as needed and as I can fit. I can tuck the Tarptent Contrail in between the dry bag and pocket if I need extra capacity. Usually my tent goes in seat bag. Pole gets tucked into frame bag.

With the sweetroll the bag and pad go in the roll, with extra layers tucked into each end. Tent rides between the pocket and sweetroll.

@bmike-vt,
Do the spacer blocks on the harness give you ample room to comfortably ride on the tops of your bars?

I don't know what the question is - but the answer is: Lubrication!

i never had them, as my harness is old school, made custom by eric back before he was revelate...
yup, they do give you enough room, as my friend has them.
and i rode there just fine without them.
