I came across interesting project on kickstarter:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1401606907/nuseti-the-mountain-bike-of-the-future

The bike is equipped with a planetary gearbox and fully enclosed in the frame drivetrain elements (chainring, chain and sprocket).

I would appreciate such system during bikepacking trips or Tour Divide racing.

It looks like gear range is spot on. There is no information about the weight of the gearbox but I hope that it is in the middle of Rohloff speedhub and Pinion P1.

I've already backed the project because it looks very promising.

Any thoughts?

Looks like a cool project.  The gearbox seems to have a good range.  For me, I would not want to deal with any sort of field repairs on an enclosed system like that.  Especially one that seems so complex (planetary gearbox).

I've got more details about the Nuseti bike from the designer:

"The weight of gearbox insert is 2350g

The frame estimated weight is 1200g

The space for wheel (width) is 68 mm - which means that max. tire size is 2.25 with the rim width 25mm.

The IDS uses a machine chain that is more precise and designed with a smaller tolerance - which significantly rises its life expectancy compared to traditional bicycle chain.

The garbox works with about 80 ml of oil. The necessary change interval is 10 000 km, however we recomend to do it each 5 000 km. This will be very easy to do without opening the box. The drive should easily run through 50 000 km, however it may be necessary to change the chain each 10 000. Anyway, we are still working on making it not necessary to change - which is very likely to achieve.

The q-factor is 163 mm."
