Hello,
I’ve just joined bikepacking.net after finding the site a couple of months ago, so this is my first post. The reason why I have called for you 3 gents is I have found pictures on the site of your homemade DIY projects.
I have just made a custom frame bag for my Chromag Hardtail, mainly by looking at the photos on this site and various links to other sites and blogs. It has been a very successful project.
I made it from an off cut of kelvar re-enforced cordura that I found cheap on a UK fabric site – supposedly what they make fireman suits from. It is a very strong fabric for the weight but not water resistant, so I have just ordered some X-PAC fabric from Germany for my next project.
The Seat Pack
I am intending on buying an Epic Designs/Revelate seat pack in the New Year (or sooner if funds allow), but I’m also interested in having a go at making my own for use in the autumn but also as a spare as I’m trying to persuade my girlfriend to try bikepacking with me.
I am looking, if you would be so kind, for any tips, hints, build photos or templates that you might have on your seatpacks that might help me along the way. This build def looks more complex than the frame bag, esp. the flexible frame, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Cheers,
Rik

Hi Rik,
I might make another bag for myself soon with a couple little improvements. If so I'll document the process with photos and notes. I'll get back to you shortly with some build tips.

Mine was hard to make and is very far from perfect. I do think you can make a functional one without hard reinforcements. The ballistics in mine does a good enough job giving it shape without more help.

I gave up trying to make mine, it just looked rubbish and didn't hang very well so I bought a Revelate one which I've not actually got round to using (I'm waiting for the cuben MLD tarp to arrive). If you like I can let you know how it's made and post some pics if it helps; let me know if you're interested. Matt

Famous last words.... I got caught on a fallen tree and now I've got a fractured shoulder blade. Bugger... Feel free to post a reply in a week or so when I've stopped moaning to remind me to take some pics! Sorry for being tardy, Matt
