Thought it would be fun to share this.

Bike is a "top of the line" (ie just decent) big box FS for a trip in summer, planning on getting a wider cassette and better pedals.

I'm not thrilled with regular bikepacking setup, nor did panniers seem like a great idea so just a little more strapped to the back seemed like a good idea.....if I had a rack.

The full suspension and big box precluded any normal rack working well, so I used my work fabrication experience and some 3/4 Baltic birch plywood to fab something. I used a CNC router because I have one at work, but a jigsaw and a drill could work too for the basics. Still to be glued, SS screwed, and finished.

Plan is a tent and a 20L drybag on the back (but could go 2x20L) and a 20L drybag off bars with sleeping gear.

I'll probably continue the woody theme with some type of bag mount up front to clear cables.

This is awesome. But don't call it wood. Call it composite. Plywood is basically nature's carbon fiber. I imagine this is actually pretty light, as rear racks go.
