I'm hoping to glue a patch of rubber or some other grippy material to a tarp to create a spot for a pole or paddle to sit without sliding around.
Seems like this is a tall order. Any suggestions?

Would just laying down a couple of layers of Silnet work instead?

How about sewing on some toughtek anti slip fabric? It's a little heavy but you might not need much. Another idea would be to sew a small piece of Velcro to the silnylon and the sew a matching piece to a small, lightweight piece of foam that you could attach once the tarp is laid out. Good luck.

That would be a good idea although I'd have to hand-sew it and frankly, I suck. I would hate to ruin a nice tarp with my butchery. Smiley

When I was at REI the other day, I noticed that they had some seal-sealer that was designed just for silnylon. Maybe that would work, since it's designed to adhere to the material?

I mix up a slurry of neutral cure silicone and solvent (mineral turpentine or shellite, depending on the flash off time I want) as both adhesive or seam sealer (apply with brush). Acid cure silicone does have a bit more bite, but test a small patch first to check for compatiblity.

The silicone will provide a grippy surface, but almost no mechanical protection to the underlying material, you could embed some flymesh into the slurry to provide lightweight, mechanical protection.

I have a big tube of the Silnet seam sealer... I might just try a few layers of that to create some kind of a grippy spot. I could probably glue a Silnylon patch on there as well to provide a little extra protection.
