So is anybody interested in buying some DP fabric?? VX21-$11.55yd or $7.00yd seconds(missing X-ply yarn), VX42 $13.95yd or $10.95yd (graphite and blue overstock), VX07 $10.75yd. There are other fabrics too but I don't know anything about them VX03,VX51, X51, V51, VS75, WX20, TX07, TXG2. Lets get some people together, all we need is 50 yards. Post here or PM me.

So you need enough people to buy 50 yards of the same fabric...right?
Since I ordered plenty from Rockywoods not long ago, I'm hesitant to commit. However, I think you'd do better if you chose a weight/color and announced the group order here and on backpackinglight.com. I'd go for 5 yards of VX21 in the red with black x-ply yarn if that helps you make a decision.

"It can be 50 yards of all different fabrics not all the same." Are you sure? The chief reason they changed the policy was that they were getting overwhelmed by people placing orders for short lengths of fabric. That's why they charged the $20 cutting fee on small orders in the past.

I pmed 12wheels on this already but wanted to let everyone else know that is interested that the 50 yard order can be mix and match. Here is a quote from the email sent to me when I enquired about the minimum order.
Please note that Dimension Polyant management has decided that we can no longer process small orders, so the minimum order from DP will be 50yds. This applies to any style in stock, 1sts or 2nds. The 50yds can be a combination of several styles. So I am interested in VX21, VX42, VX07 and WX20. It looks like black is pretty much the only color although there is overstocks of VX42 in graphite and ocean blue. VX21 is available in true red and black. Everything else is black. So if you are interested let me know and we'll get something together.
Thanks,
J

Alright, Alright!! So I'm pretty much up to the minimum buy of 50 yards. I am posting this to confirm everybody that has responded so far.
Trebor- 10yds black VX21 2nds, 2yds red VX21 2nds, 2yds VX07 black, 2yds WX20 black and 2yds VS75 black
fastmtnbiker33w- 5yds black VX21 and 5yds red VX21
paulmissoula- 3-5yds black VX42
curtisc- 5yds black VX07
I am going to order a bunch as we are good to go. I will wait to order so other people can get in on this. One thing, I've never initiated or participated in a group buy on a forum so if anyone can drop some knowledge on proper procedure and all of that I would appreciate it.
Thanks, J

You are now a distributor. Get everything packed and ready to ship, give each of us a total and we can "gift" paypal you to avoid the fees or you can bill us and tack on a bit extra for the fee. That's the easiest way I can see.

When you click to "send money", a window comes up with spaces to fill in the recipient info. Below that are two tabs..."purchase" and "personal". Under personal is a button for "gift".
It's a way to get around the 3% fee or whatever it is.

I'm guessing DP is still going to want to charge the $20/cut for small quantities (less than 10 yds per style) so that brings your yardage cost back up close to what rockywoods sells for. Before executing on this I would try to quote out what each of these 'orders' is going to cost you to do. I'm all for a group buy but the reality and logistics of this sort of thing can get overwhelming in a hurry.

Good idea. I will email them to find out what the deal is. If that is the case maybe we can order just VX21 in black since it is probably the fabric that is used the most.

So the cutting fee would be $10.00 on quantities less than 10 yards. So if we want a good price on a particular fabric we need to order at least 10 yards of it. Since Rockywoods carries VX21 and VX07 I wanted to try some of the others out, the whole reason for this group buy. So unless we get a minimum of 10 yards for a particular fabric, it might not be worth it. I want at least 5 yards of the black VX21 maybe 10. I would also like to try out the VX42, VX07, WX20(maybe) and VX51(maybe). But unless we can get 10 yards of any of those I will stick to the standards.
I am also thinking about just ordering the 50 yards myself and then offering them for sale here just to try and make it less complicated. It's quite a sum to front but, if y'all are willing to commit, I will do it.

Refer back to my first post.
I'd still want the 5 yards of vx21 black and would be willing to go up to 10 yards on red vx21 if nobody else wants any. If you do 10 yards of vx21 that's $135.50 with the cutting fee and 10 for shipping. That's hella less than the 180 plus shipping that RW's gonna charge....yet it's their new Terrain X-Pac.....does anyone know the diff?

I think the name is the only thing different. Same material construction just marketed to bags and such.

I have no firsthand experience but read on another forum that Terrain is VX-21 and Standard is VX-07.

That is correct: VX07 = Standard VX21 = Terrain VX42 = Rugged VX51 = Extreme This is the product description from Hale at DP in the 2011 Outdoor Material Guide.

Hello lads,
So here is an update on the buy.
VX21 1sts in black-20 yards VX21 2nds in black-10 yards VX21 1sts in red-7 yards VX21 2nds in red-4 yards (area45 maybe get 1sts instead to put red up to the minimum) VX42 1sts in black-3 yards (if someone wants to add a few yards to this I would like a few yards too so we can get the minimum) VX07 1sts in black-7 yards trebor and I also wanted to try some WX20 and VS75 so if anyone wants any of those fabrics let me know so we can get the 10 yard minimum
I didn't add my quantities to these totals so we are definitely up to the 50 yard minimum for an order. I just want to get the different fabrics up to the 10 yard minimum so we don't have to pay cutting fees for each of them.
Let me know if you want to add anything to this order
Thanks,
Jason
