Hi,

I purchased an old New Home 532 sewing machine off ebay today.  I think it needs a service as so far I have not had any joy with it even sewing a sample piece of old t shirt  icon_scratch

I should have asked the lady to demo it to me when I collected it, but I trusted her judgment :-(

The machine looks like it will be ideal, once I have resolved the snapping thread and skipped stitching issue.

I think the first thing I will do is to give it an oil as when I loaded the bobbin with thread the sewing needle arm moved really slowly.

What I would like to know is what thread / needle combination should I purchase for sewing the 1000 denier cordura and 25mm webbing?

Any pointers welcomed.

Thanks

Start by reading this. This is the absolute best information I've ever seen on how to get a machine to sew like a dream.

Hey there Flanagaj,
Did you get your sewing machine figured out?   Give it a good oiling, use Coats Uphostery thread with a # 16 needle.  Heavy black thread is tricky in the home sewing machines but can be done.  Let me know if you still need any help.

Apologies for not posting back, but I gave the machine a really good oil and it sews like a dream now.  Has no trouble sewing through double layers of webbing.

Really chuffed with it!
