The only micro tripods I was able to find for sale seemed too expensive for what you were getting. So I made my own. I've taken it on many trips and it works well on level as well as uneven surfaces. There is one tough part of this project however. You have to go buy beer and drink it. For those of you willing to suffer for your sport, here you go.

Step one: Buy a Fosters bomber and drink it with vigor and enthusiasm.

Step two: Place a razor blade in a book and spin the can against the blade until you cut through the can. Make the cut line just below the word "premium" on the can along the white line.

Step three: Go buy (or buy before you begin drinking) a 1/4 bolt in this case 1.5" long but 1.25" would probably work as well. You will also need a 1/4 nut and a washer.

Step four: Drill a hole in the center of the bottom of the can. Insert the bolt and lock it down with the washer under the nut.

Step five: Run a line of electrician's tape along the cut edge and then carefully fold it over to make a rubberized base.

Step seven: Stand back and revel at your DIY prowess. Then consume more beer in celebration of a job well done.

That works.

I carry a small stuff sack (~3"x6") and fill it with dirt (or whatever soft is around) and smash my camera into it. It has infinite angle capabilities and when I get the shot i dump the dirt and shove the sack in the pack. Way light, cheap and flexible. I only miss out on the initial beer...

It is a 1/4-20 UNC bolt. (1/4" wide and 20 threads per inch). It might be best to just bring the camera to the hardware store just incase.

Now I know what to do with my pop can stoves that did not quite work out. Very inventive greenwater.
