Hi everyone! As I see, I'm first from Poland here, on bikepacking.net. I'm one of not many bikepackers from Poland and I would like to show u my first real tent-tarp I've made myself. It isn't ultralight, becouse with 9 pegs, frame and cover it weights about 800g. Everything becouse of heavy material (silnylon isn't very popular in Poland). In spite of this I'm happy with my new tarp.  Do u like it? If not, what can I improve? I would like to invite to my blog: www.wciazwdrodze.blogspot.com |

Looks like it will keep you dry if set up right. Weight sounds good also. I've been doing the tarp set ups for years some times it works great others not so much. Looks like this one should set up pretty quick and easy.

Not a bad design.... a-symetrical... easy to pitch off a tree.... looks big enough and enclosed enough for winter use.
I've been looking at the golite Shangri-la 1 alot. Very similar design. But I already have a 1lb 10oz stripped down SL 3 and a Golite poncho tarp. Both are wonderful. I am in love with golite's tents, tarps, quilts and down jackets.
As much as I'd be concerned about eight I'd also be concerned about pack bulk for off road / backroad touring.
The other issue is its color. I can't remember the last time I saw a black tent. This might be great in the fall/spring/winter for melting snow off it, drying it in the sun, maybe even get a few more degrees warmth inside.
Not a good summer color though.

Didn't really think about the color, seems like any darker would add warmth if the sun is out. Makes good sense for adding warmth. If it's already warm out then just sleep under the starts.

Hi rafalb,
You are not the first person here from Poland, definitely.
Your concept of the tarptent looks interesting. But for this weight I would rather consider Henry Shires Contrail which has also floor and bug-nets. I am also concerned about the pack bulk of this tarptent as mmeiser posted.
Regarding the color, dark color is suitable in Polish climate which is quite humid and cold. It could be also easier to dry a tarp from morning dew.
What kind of frame did you use?

Wow! Pawel and from Gdańsk to that! I'm from Gdynia. I know that the weight isn't the best but it's becouse the material is heavy rip-stop. The pack bulk isn't a problem. Everything goes to saddlebag (small pack), and the frame (two alu tubules) I attach to my bike's frame. The color is perfect to stay invisible in forest. To be honest: everything is made to be cheap, becouse I'm a student. |

What do you need 9 pegs for? I have the massive 3 man Rainshadow Tarptent, and it only needs 4. Easy weight savings! |

I know that it is a lot, and it weights...but to pick this tarp up perfectly I need 9 pegs. I'm lucky man, to have alu, 6g each, pags.

Hi there, after my quite heavy tent-tarp i decided to sew something lighter. With 32g/m2 grey spinnaker i sew 1.5x2.5m tarp. With guylines it weights 239g. Hi, another Polish member checking in - this time from central PL near Lodz, so far away from you guys  Rafal have you ever considered repeating your first design with lighter fabric? It looks like it could definitely stand up to some inclement weather. |

I'm thinking about that but light materials are too expensive for me. Maybe next year, after holiday work(?)... I've tested my spinnaker tarp while 4 days riding in polish mountains. The best kind of pitching:  ...was very good. |
