Hi ... I'm Andy , got the tag Whistle after playing in a diddly band for years and years ...
Since the band has now disbanded (Hahaha LOL) I am returning to previous interests and hobbies , principally Photography ... Landscape and wildlife ... but I hate walking so the bike is an ideal way of getting into areas of interest and as a load carrier when a little stealthy overnighting is required !

I have been browsing the Bikepacking site for a while now and have been very impressed by all the MYOG gear ...
and I thought I'd like to try ...
This is my take on making a handlebar harness / sling ...

I needed something completely versatile as I have 3 bikes and use them all at different times ...
I have been very impressed with Military Molle webbing systems as a flexible adaptable system and thought that would be a good starting point ... I enjoy the simplicity and ease of use of Velcro and thought that would enhance the Molle capabilities too ...

One thing other people seem to have trouble with is the harness interfering with their controls and cables and found MYOG gear by JerryW on this site that used a foam block to space the harness away from the handlebars... My take on that is to use modified saddle bumpers or buffers or whatever you call'em ...
on an old Brooks saddle they used to be called springs ... You'll recognise them anyway ...





You can see how the molle and velcro works and how the straps and handlebar spacers can be moved accross the molle webbing field ... the harness is completly flexible and can be adapted to take small dry bags , exra large dry bags , tents , bedrolls even my Camera bag !!!

Looks good! That's a great use for the MOLLE webbing, very adjustable.

The seatbag holster turned out well, too. It looks like you sized it up a little from my example.

Cheers Jerry , means a lot to me as your system was the main inspiration ,

I was going to post another topic on ''my take on a seatbag / holster later today,

and I give you full credit for that too ! 

I blatantly copied your pattern but you are right but I made it a little bigger to get the XL Exped dry bag in there too !

last night I finished a prototype for a harness using the same MOLLE system. My design differs quite a bit but we are on the same page with the webbing up front. I thought I was on to something new. NOT! Great job on the bags.

Molle is brilliant. This is a Maxpedition Proteus versipack adapted to use as a handlebar bag.
Also, a friend added Molle webbing to my Sutherland saddlebags. With the use of Malice clips, it is a bomp proof fit. I added some MYOG Molle webbing to the bottom of a  Maxpedition Sabercat by hand using a Speedy Stitcher. Now the Sabercat will, with Malice clips,fit to the rear deck of the saddlebags.

Very nice. What are those googly looking attachment points to the handlebars? They look like old plunger pieces.

Sorry Roadpacker ... been having 'puter probs ... took me a while to get back to this site !!!

Yeah the Googly "plunger pieces" are actually rubber saddle bumpers ...

on an old Brooks saddle , they used to be metal springs , but most modern "comfort"

saddles use these rubber bumpers in place of the springs ...

they do make good spacers though and keep the sling off the brake levers !!!

Sorry Asatrur ... as I told roadpacker I've been having 'puter probs ...

took a while to get back to get back to this site !!!

The bike in the photos is a Raleigh Broadwalk light ...

It's a folding bike like the older Dahon speed 7 ...

The Dodgy seat clamp in the center of the handlebars is to release

the bar enabling the brake levers to swing upright ... then the folding

stem is swung over and down to a position between the wheels

as they are brought together after releasing the main frame lock lever

Yeah ... its a bit fiddly but it works well and you get quicker with practice !!!
