Just finished these bags so I thought I'd share since I remember seeing a couple similar threads --
I was asked by someone locally if I could make them a custom framebag for carrying their pistol since they have a concealed carry permit. The design is a basic 3/4 size frame bag with rigid inserts on all three sides, a tear away panel for the main compartment and an interior bag that holds the pistol and conceals it when it's removed from the primary compartment.
Things I wish I had done differently: - Use water resistant zippers all the way throughout. Unfortunately I ran out so I finished the bag with standard zippers on the panel loading side. - Taken the time to measure and sew the fabric right up to the teeth of the zipper on the panel loading side. Would have made for a cleaner look since the zipper tape is stretchy and wide. In the interest of time I just did the 1/2 zipper split approach. - Moved the vertical zipper a little closer to the seam. - Used a line 20 or 24 button snap rather than velcro for the pull tab.
Hardly my best work but the idea is there so I thought I'd share. I'll likely remake this style of bag for myself for my primary tourer out of xpac VX21 with full water resistant zippers and a storm flap.. I'm really digging the convenience of the panel load design. For my bag I'll make 3 interior bags to store items, keep them organized and make for quick packing/unpacking.
