A cuben fiber bar tube I made. I wanted something a bit smaller than what I have been using the last few years so I made a narrower, smaller diameter bar tube for my clothing items: rain on the right, insulation in the middle, layers on the left. Came out pretty light with hook and loop straps to hold it to the bars and head tube (87g or 3.07oz). It survived it's initial test of 4 rugged days in the Chilcotins a couple weeks ago which involved some bush whacking and off trail travel. I'm happy with how it came out.
I plan on doing a 'Personal setup' in the coming week or so, so mounted pictures will be there.

You should post a picture of the bag mounted on the bicycle.

Nice piece of work!  What weight of CF did you use for that?

Right on!  I've give Z Packs a few paychecks myself and very familiar with all of their products and materials.  That weight of material should probably hold up very well.  Good stuff, thanks for sharing!

How do you waterproof the seam? I've seen stuff sacks that are just taped, but I've never taped seams and that just doesn't sound strong enough for a handlebar dry bag. Do you tape and sew? Do you sew and use a seam sealant?

Thanks!

Hi,

I didn't waterproof the seams. Just sewed it along. I don't use seam sealant for any of my projects. Some people like it but I don't think it's worth the extra effort and mess/fuss.
All the clothes that go in the bag are organized in bonded cuben stuff sacks I made out of 0.51oz which are pretty waterproof (enough for my needs), so I'm not too worried about full waterproofing.

Addy, you got the best shit. I used your PVC tube idea to make a mount for a bag (I just threaded two female buckles on there) and it worked on a 3,000 mile biek ride across the country. I wanted to make one cuben. Looks like I found it in your next project. Always a step ahead man. Much respect.

Thanks a tonne for the compliment! although the pvc idea wasn't mine, it is super simple and clever.
Cuben is really fun to work with and the results have been great. I've got some cool projects planned for this year.
3000 mile ride across the country, that deserves much respect! nice work!

How does the velcro attachment work? I saw on the post-up image that you may have had a third attachment to the fork tube?

Attachments points are...
Two around the bars a few inches out from either side of the stem and a daisy chain at the back of the bag that I use velcro straps to loop around the head tube. This prevents the bag from bouncing up and down.

So light that you don't need any kind of insulation against the bar like the SaltyRoll has, for example. Damn! What I'm putting is probably a bit too heavy to trust velcro, I may need to use some kind of other strapping. Coming soon, I'll post a picture.

To protect the carbon bars I wrap cork bar tape between the stem and the controls. My bike has taken on a certain 'patina' over the years of velcro strap abrasion to the point that I think it looks better after every trip. There's some wear down to the bare metal but that's cool, it's steel. The design of my pouch has straps that go all the way around the bar roll as well and these cinch the bar roll up tight. It's simple but it works. The velcro more holds the bar roll in place. I don't go without the pouch as it's integral in holding things together nice and tight.

I could go for some sort of stand off's to create some space for the controls, I just haven't really got that far with the design. It works in it's current form with minimal interruption so I've just left it. Some space would be nice though.
