I heard from my hubby tonight via email. He is in Platoro, Co staying in a cabin. His tracker batteries are dead. I was so surprised to hear that he made it into Co after tracking backwards to find his tracker. Go Pete!!

Pete Faeth called his parents this morning at the crack. He lost his tracker yesterday, but found it. Whew! He said he rode 16 hrs to catch up, but not sure what his plan is. He is complaining that his rear is starting to hurt now and he sounded like the smoke was getting to him.. he hasn't called me yet, (I am assuming he lost coverage) so I don't have any details. His tracker shows the last update 14 hrs ago. Does someone need to reset it, or is this something he has to do?

Praying over the Blumenthal family for peace and comfort, and for a super natural healing over Dave.
Psalm 46:1-2 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea
2 Corinthians 1:3-5 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. 5 For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows.

Hey, Teamfaeth ... Just learned today that the Billmans have distant relatives (cousins on our dad's side) whose last name was Faeth. They lived in Ft. Madison, Iowa. Interesting.
Give Pete an attaboy for me when you get him home.
Hi Chillman I just read your post. We have been at my son's soccer tournament all day. They had 3 games and they won first place. I picked up Pete last night, and we didn't get to bed until 1230a. Our alarm went off at 530a to take my son to soccer. For those who asked about Pete's foot. It is his shin that has a possible stress fracture. He doesn't remember when it happened. I figured his feet were frozen when he hurt it. Any hew, glad he's home. He came home a bit scruffy and stinky. Ha. He had to buy a pair of shorts at REI to travel home. Who are the Billman's? Is that you guys? Any relation to Bill Billman? It would be interesting to find out if there is a relation somewhere down the line. We've had more cool small world stories while Pete has been on this trip. I've missed tracking the race today. I am all caught up and just heard earlier on the radio that Billings Montana had tornados and Flagg Rancho has 500 burning acres. Yikes!

I can give you my perspective on Pete's training. He rides around 30 miles a day at work. He is a bike cop in downtown Davis, Ca. We have rolling hills behind our development in Rancho Murieta, Ca. He did his normal rides which he avg around 25 to 30 a ride. He just loves to ride..I read where Dave Peterson rode 100m rides to prepare for this race. Pete didn't have a whole lot of time to ride as much as he would like to (2 jobs, bike cop, pilot for the military, 3 kids, new goldendoodle 8 mos dog, and a then there's me!) He was introduced to mountain biking around 4 yrs ago, when we were stationed at the Marine Cold Weather Mountain Warfare Training Center off Sonora Pass. His first love for years was soccer. He played for UC Davis, and some pro. He started reading MTB mags and bought his first mountain bike and he has been obsessed since. He loves working on them as much as riding them. I am sure he could tell you more about his training for this race. Ok..off to pick him up. Thanks again for helping a brother out!

Yea..thanks! I think he's pretty great. He is stubborn, so it is hard to believe he is calling it quits. I am sure he will be sending out tons of thank yous when he returns. Thanks for taking care of him! C

bruceb and chillman Pete just called me from Salt Lake City. He said his foot is throbbing and purple. Yikes! He called me last night and we talked it over. I am really disappointed he didn't finish, but super excited to have him home with us in one piece. It has been so much fun reading all the blogs and tracking all these guys. I feel like I know them all. Ha! I will keep tracking and have Pete update all his supporters when he gets home. My daughter fell from the monkey bars today. I may have to take them to the doctor for a two for one. Ha. A special thanks to all who reached out to Pete to encourage him. You are the best! This race has really inspired me to ride my bike. Maybe I will try the new tandem Pete just bought us before he left. Take care and God Bless! Cindy F. ps. If anyone has pics of my hubby or the group photos please send them to my email. Thanks cindyfaeth@gmail.com

Unfortunately, single-speeder Pete Faeth has called it quits in Polaris. Read about the bike cop's quest from his local paper. Neat story. Hope he's not too down.
Looks like the remaining three SSers are Harding (who is booking it), Billman (who better call in soon, maybe from Lima hopefully) and the always upbeat Mountain Turtle.

Pete Faeth called me a few minutes ago. He sounds great and he said his body feels good. He isn't sore at all. He did go by the bike shop in Butte and he has a broken spoke. Other than that..looking forward to some long hard rides coming up when the weather clears. Go Petey! We miss you!! All Pete Spot Dot followers better rest up tonight. We will need it for the upcoming days if all goes well..sleep well. C

Montanakb THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! That was sooooooooo cool. He just called me. How did you know it was him? Well, duh..he looks like a nice guy huh? JK I am shocked you told him that. It made his total day!!! You just refueled him. Mamma on the move to take my son to the Prarie City bike races. He is 9 and riding a SS in the junior cat..he wore his new baggy bike shorts he got for his birthday last week and placed 2nd (first week he got 1st), so he dawned his tights today to make him go faster. Like father like son. Ha! Thank you so much. Is it too much to ask to give him some sugar for me? JK. So kind..really. Cindy Faeth

Hi Scott, When the racers get to there check points do they have to check in or cross a certain point for the time to post? I noticed that Faeth and a few others are in Lincoln but their time hasn't posted. I hope I'm not being impatient.

Hi, I am back from spending the day out with my kids miniature golfing. I had to get out of my house and away from my computer. I am so relieved to have heard from my hubby this morning. He didn't sound all that great. He and Preston were exhausted and taking some time to recuperate from a couple of hard days of climbing. I had to give him the ole Marine wife pep talk. I am bummed to hear Heather Dawe dropped out due to illness. Pete told me she wasn't feeling well. I found her blog and read up on some of her previous races she has done, and I was so impressed with how well she was doing. We wish her well, and a safe trip back to England. Well done Heather Dawe! Ps..love your bike girl! Thanks a bunch AmyL for all the Spot training. That would have been really helpful last night when I was up after midnight and rose early to find my hubby still in Seeley Lake at 1030a my time. I panicked for sure thinking the worst,. especially after a few had some injuries and were getting sick. I can't even comprehend the magnitude of difficulty this has been for all the racers. Again, so appreciate all you guys filling me in..this race has turned out to be such an inspiration to me in so many ways. I've learned to appreciate and understand my husband's passion for mountain biking. Hey if someone does offer to send out a blimp..can I send a Happy Father's Day shout out to my man from his kiddos??JK. I'm trying to think of creative ways to tell him what an awesome dad he is! Missing my man! Semper Fi! Faethfam Psalm 112:7 He (I) will have no fear of bad news; his (my) heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD.

She has been at Swan Lake since this morning. That is why I think she has her tracker off. Can the riders do that? Just turn them off so they can't be tracked? If so, that would add an interesting twist for us "armchair mountain biker junkies" . I need to go to bed. It is only day four and I can hardly tear myself away from this race. Good nite all! 12 am Cali time..
