Did Scott just set a new AZT300 record?   I will add this  headbang for his great ride whether it's a new record or not!

Well our group did a "Coco warmup" loop.  Lots of time hanging out and talking by a fire.  Did some nice hike-a-bike back up on the rim via Casner mtn area....
Congratulations to all!

Four of us plan to take off Sunday around 10ish.  Likely doing an alternate route for day one to avoid the mud between marshall lake and mormon mtn.  We will also likely be camping at lower elevations for the the first two nights - should be a little warmer in the desert. We will not be racing, but certainly there will be some friendly fire, and picture taking...  Hopefully the flat possibly muddy areas between williams and wing mtn will be drained enough by the time we get to them next Wednesday...

cold. usually helps me out too....  It is the wet that is making me think twice about a Friday departure....
Mud on the first day is the some of the worst mud I know in these parts....

Here is NOAA's discussion about next Thursday.

THE FIRST SIGNIFICANT COLD FRONT OF THE SEASON COULD MOVE ACROSS THE
AREA ON THURSDAY USHERING IN COOLER TEMPS AND MORE PRECIPITATION...
AND MAYBE EVEN SOME MOUNTAINTOP SNOW.

I do love snow... but the mud around lake mary and the mormon volcanic field - not so much....

Hey Scott, Got some info on the end of stage 4 that might be important.  The section cutting across from elden lookout rd to fort valley rd(180) doesn't work out anymore from what I heard yesterday.  Apparently the owners of the undeveloped land that we cut through right there put up a fence so that we can't ride through there anymore.  I'll go check it out to confirm. Eric
I was there this morning and there was no fence.  Seemed fine.  This area does have a history and with a for sale sign at the end of the cocoloop singletrack it could become problematic in the future.....   There is some issues further down the trail across Quintana Dr. on Elks Lodge trail (aka no trespassing trail), but that is out of the scope of the cocoloop.

... skip "Sick of More" and head north out of Williams to pick up even more of the AZT. Pick up more miles on faster rolling terrain...

That is a really good idea Tim.  Heading out of williams through government prairie then Kendrick park to pick up the AZT over by Kendrick park would be beautiful and sweet. It would give the Kachina (San Francisco) Peaks a much better and deserved part of the cocoloop.

Not a veteran of this ride yet...  but that new AZT from Alpha Fia tank is so awesome.  It is the singletrack-talk of flagstaff right now.  I heard that the wing mtn motorcycle-trail took a hit from the monsoons this year.  I also like the strive for 250 miles idea.

FYI: the existing cocoloop uses moto not supper-moto.  supper-moto is above moto, above the pipeline (and while that is a wonderful trail) it is darn techy and steep and I believe that it is not being considered for use in the 250.

I support whatever decision is made...  and very much look forward to hitting the trail and camping at the stage stops with some trail riders. it has been a year since I've done a ride over 50 miles so hot dang I am stoked.

I'm planning to make this ride.  Really stoked!
Hey Yuri, Did you taste the water at mingus "lake"?  Where on the bypass did you find the spigot?

Yeah I was talking about the CT with bike-detours route.  It might not make sense but it may be an interesting challenge.  Just curious if this style of travel has been done by bike. thanks, T

Has the CT been done without resupply ?

Edit:  I see that it has been hiked un-supported (no resupply) in 14 days (link). Anyone done a un-supported bike ride of the CT?

Wow, i can only imagine the AZT race experiences this year!  Congratulations to all of them, you.
Dara, my wife, reminded me that L.W. was wearing warmers during an August ride in Flagstaff a couple years back.  She must thrive in the heat!!!!   Way to crush it L.W.!

Wow those course changes look cool.  Stoked for all of you.
For all you full meal dealers.
It is snowing in Flagstaff, and 5-11" of snow is forecast tonight/tomorrow for 8000 feet in the Flagstaff/Kachina Peaks area.
I think much of the course was dry and ride-abled this week... but now?Huh?  But by the time you get here I think it will be good again. No need to concern yourself with it now.  Enjoy the desert next weekend!
