Thanks for the glove advice - warm gloves packed! Next questions: Am I right in thinking there are no resupply options between Hot Springs and Silverton. In case of mechanical problems, bike shops in Breckenridge, Leadville, Buena Vista and Silverton?
Steve, here are a couple more backup options as for food/resupply between PHS and Silverton. At Hwy 50 1 mile east down hill is Monarch Spur RV Campground with a general store. The best shower I've ever had in my life was at this campground. At Hwy 50 3 mile west up hill there is a pretty good restaurant, can't remember the name. At Hwy 149(smulligan) north to Lake San Cristobal approx 7.3 miles there is Highlander RV with limited food, also on the Lake is a motel/retreat that I've heard serves food. At Hwy 149(smulligan) 10 miles north is Lake City with all resupply and a bike shop - Lake City Bicycles Inc open sometimes, and by appointment sometimes. Sometimes off-route it better than doing without. Disclaimer- I has been 3 years since I have been to any of these places. Hopefully you will not need these, but they are there. Tony V SS-T

I know the cairns on Cataract Ridge start approx 2 miles west of Cataract Gulch, but how far do they continue? All the way to Stoney Point? Guess my real ? is, when could a Durango starter expect them to start?

I'll be 32 X 21 ON 26'' The 3 mythical gears of single speed. High gear is seated, middle gear is standing and low gear is pushing/pulling/or dragging.

For those of you familiar with the the Junction Creek Trailhead, how safe would you consider it for parking during the CTR? Any ideas for parking in Durango? Any fee for parking at the J C TH? Thanks, Tony V

Going in reverse this year, I have been working on the calories needed out of Silverton to Buena Vista. I have a number of 16,000 and it weighs around 12 pounds. I had a great no-backpack strategy going until I tried to find a way to carry all that food! It fit on the bike, but whoa heavy (60 pounds with 100 oz water). I guess a small backpack will have to do... Gdillion, 12 pounds for 16000 calories seems pretty heavy (unless that includes the 100 oz h2o). 16,000 cals @ averaging 175 cals/oz( my goal) is only 5.7 pounds + packaging. As much as it cost to cut grams off of gear weight I hate to negate that by carrying to much low cal food, but if your happy with the 12, go for it. Tony V

In honor of John Muir's birthdate tomorrow. "Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves." 1901
