It should be noted that Josh Gloor has been riding along with Ron Thompson & actually waited a full day for a Ron at Jacob Lake. Josh's track leaders dot has been lacking in stats & the bluedot doesn't show him at all. I'm positive that Ron & Josh finished together as that was their pattern as we leapfroged in the 1st 500mi.
A huge Congrats to you both Ron & Josh. From the looks of the conditions, my crashed bones caused less suffering than what you guys went through to finish.

OMG, truly epic finish in epic conditions John!
I'm still shivering watching JC, Ron, Sara & Josh tuffing it out. My crashing out seemsome to be easily Lee painful.

Damn Mike, sorry to hear you had to pull the plug but understandable. Was really pulling for you this year, it was a pleasure to watch your SPOT. Wish I could have been out there on the 750 again with you this year.. it's been driving me batty watching this from the armchair! Can't wait for my move to Alaska in a couple of weeks so I can get settled and strap on the bags.

I'd ask Rob to run my ideal by you about a "Legendary BPG" trophy to be passed along to the most Chronologically Challenged finisher as new records are set. I can message you more detail if your unsure what I'm typing about.
If you are game I'll get on it as soon as I'm a Little more mobile.

Like Bug Shield said, Used some poor judgement about 3mi out of Pine. I'm 95% sure it's a deep muscle bruise & not a hairline fracture. I'll get an Xray tomorrow just to know how long the recovery time will be.
I believe the best call is, if you have to think about a riding a downhill after 12hr plus on the bike DON'T!

Huge Props to Scott & all the trail angles who make this event possible.
A special thanks to the vols resupply the water caches.  I can't even imagine the expense in time & dollars these peeps put in, I bet the ware & tear on the vehicles make their repair shop a lot of $$$

John, how much longer do you figure that trail section to Gold Canyon takes? I wonder if folks realize that there's not water available between the Gila River and the stores as you near Gold Canyon...that's a fairly long haul even taking the road! And obviously, taking water from anyone at Picketpost wouldn't be fair...

There was water at the windmill by the Hwy exit to the PicketPost trailhead last month. Of course that need some breeze, still you could likely filter a puddle there. If not head over to the Arboretum a couple of miles east. Arboretum's outside water isn't potable inside hours are limited.

Also, What is everyone doing as far as the Gold Canyon option? I kinda wish it was a yes or no, that being said I'm leaning towards the road. Thoughts?

I'd like to know the resupply situation for both routes as that likely will decide for me at the "Fork in the Road". If the Bashas at Gold Canyon is on/close that will sell it for me.

Sorry
i dont andestend for me it is difficult to understand this with water places. It is coordinated gps available?
Tank you iao Mauri

I've downloaded the (android) Arizona Trail app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.highsierraattitude.arizonatrail&hl=en
of the Arizona Trail for now it doesn't include the sections we use to bypass the Wilderness sections. I use the same app for the CTR & likely wouldn't have finished without the food & water resupply GPS/info. Free to DL w/ only one sample section (Flagstaff), but You do need to spend $10 for the complete maps.
Available for Iphone also, All proceeds go the ATA & help to maintain the the trail.

The app has a section to crowd source conditions. I'm thinking we can begin adding bike route waypoints by using these update & Hashtag them #bikeroute

Booked a flight for two people to Tucson. Arriving at 11am on Thursday. Now we just need to figure out the best way to get the bikes there and a shuttle from Tucson to the start of the 750. Open to jump on a shuttle with some people.

Check out http://www.shipbikes.com/   $40 gets your bike FedEx to most places

Some instant, powered mike & Snow melt water sometime make the best lofat Iced Latte within a couple of hundred mile. Plus you get going fast w/out have to build a fire or fire up anything.
131  Forums / Question and Answer / Re: 27+ Maxxis Chronicle vs Schwalbe Rocket Ron on: February 10, 2016, 09:15:34 AM
Hello

I need tires for 27+ project. My choise would be size 27,5x3 and I'm fighting between these choises:

Maxxis Chronicle Exo TR Dual  (990g)  (80€)
Schwalbe Rocket Ron Evo Liteskin  (720g)  (43€)
Schwalbe Rocket Ron Evo Snakeskin  (830g)  (43€)

RR is a lot cheaper and it is also lighter. On the other hand I have read/heard good experiences of Chronicles but no comparison.

To add another Lighter Cheaper option look at the Panracer Fat B Nimble 27.5 x 3.5 In my experience Panaracer over states the tire widths on the Fat B Nimbles across the line. Here a review that questions the durability:    https://ridealongside.wordpress.com/2015/08/06/panaracer-fat-b-nimble-27-5-x-3-5-tire-review/

Here a story & round-about links to maps  : http://www.bikepacking.com/plog/trans-america-off-road-trail-odyssey/
The Moto guys seem very proud of their GPX files, wanting $12 a state (looks to be about .50 per mile in NM).
Anyone with a RideWithGPS account willing to post the track on here?   http://ridewithgps.com/users/273271

PVC copulers or pipe, also sm roles of duct, gorilla or electrical tape that you need to take anyway can do the trick.

Rubber bands or hair

Should Read Rubber bands or Hair ties,   I've never tried using hair, Might work but it would be really hard to take off the helmet  ; -)
135  Forums / Ultra Racing / Re: Colorado Trail Stage Race on: December 02, 2015, 02:27:31 PM

What if you had mandatory, group overnights every 2nd night?  Some people might push harder the first night and create more time that second afternoon/evening for better rest.  Others might go halfway and stop and create even days.  It would allow some flexibility in differing styles, but still allow the safety and community off every other night.  I don't know the route, but maybe that makes your stopping points easier.

I'm not sure if this is the plan, but in the coco250 the stops aren't 'Mandatory'. They are are camp spots where your Elapsed Time is paused. So theoretically you could zoom through a couple of stops the take a zero day or two at your own whim.

Not much Wilderness in the AZ White Mtns either, but if some of the many Four Peaks trails between Payson & Sunflower were to open up that would be a Plus. The Colorado Trail might be a big winner if something like this becomes law.
The way I understand the bill bike aren't automatically banned with the "wilderness designation". The Land Manager still make the call.
The link to the bill in outside is bad, DL it here:  http://goo.gl/DdJhIz

Not trying to hijack the thread, but how do you attach the bike lights to your helmet? I've been fiddling around with that for a while and can't keep them from slipping off one way or another.

Rubber bands or hair double looped thur the helmet vents give you lots of options. I ran a small Cree T5 tactical flashlight attached this way for this years CTR w/ no problems. Carry extras cuz they come in handy for lots to things & take no space.

That's why we need to let Congress people know we want this. Cuz you know the haters aren't shy about shooting off emails.

I'll add a ten day vote & thumbs up Joey's different start date.  Maybe even 2 or 3 weeks after.
