Thanks to David Phillips for helping to sort out the statistics on the workbook which also somehow got seriously munted.

Since there appear to be ongoing issues with the workbook, would anyone be willing to help out by putting in a form so that people can just enter their data and not get at the actual workbook to do the sorting etc?

I'm willing to work at it.  Not a google docs expert but it should be doable.  I see there's a form up already but the workbook still looks writeable.  When I figure it out using a workbook in my own doc space, I'll contact you to coordinate doing same to yours.
Thanks,

Scott Picquet finished before sundown on Monday. Looks like he got caught in a massive thunderstorm for an hour or so halfway between Hachita and AW.

How can we find the start date/time for the ITT riders. Seems that their time is reset to the Grand Depart (?). For example, am tracking Bill Peschka (my new hero - for all of us, ahem, more 'seasoned' riders). His spot tracks don't go back to Banff, thus can't tell start location/time.

Gracias!

My start was June 6, 6 am in Banff.  Somewhat coincidentally D-Day and H-Hour.  Thought I had an email exchange with Matt or someone when my start was inadvertently set to June 11.  Didn't much pay attention to the forum or trackleader statistics overall.  Too many opportunities for distraction when I got to town, as it was.

No problem with Bill Peschka's SPOT SOS transmission from deep in the Basin to summon help for Andreas, the injured rider.  I (wife Ann) received a call at home in Chandler from Texas monitoring company within 10 minutes of the button being pushed.  The contact person said there had been an activation and that Sweetwater Emergency was on its way.  I got a call back about 40 minutes later giving me the specifics.  That service is worth every penny.  Bill did say that he needs to read the manual again because it was not as straightforward as just pushing the button.  I am so, so relieved that the missing rider has been found.

The rider found injured on CR 23 outside of Rawlins is Andreas Fassbender, a NOBO touring from Germany.  He broke his right hip.  Andreas is in Wyoming Medical Cdenter, Casper, 307 577 7201, room 6 33
If anyone on this forum lives out that way it would be great to see if you can help him. He's alone in this country.

Bill started June 6, a week before GD.  He blazed the trail through the avalanches which was later covered by the Blizzard.  It has been a little lonely out there until yesterday.  He is my hero too!

I'm at Montana High Country Lodge just outside of Polaris.  It's a must stop. Great welcome and food.  They're eager to do anything for you.  They make it hard to leave. Heading on out as soon as all is dry.

I went out to the crossing on Thu.  Walked about 75 yds up and down stream.  Didn't see anywhere I'd want to Ford without my bike.  Lots of gravel bars but way deep in between. I'm sure some of the GD people will, scout later this week.  The Canmord loop is twice far and steep.

There's plenty of intermittent snow on Elk Pass trail and at the pass.  Anything on the powerline is  clear.  Snow range from ankle deep to knee deep.

The reroute out of Elkford is marked well on the GPS. Just pay attention to the route line.  Where you leave the road near the Falls, the trail will be hard to see, especially at night.  If you got to the dead end parking lot, you've gone too far.  Backup less than. A quarter mile.  I put a rock cairn where the trail takes off.

Likewise, once you top out on the trail, it single tracks for a while.  When it looks like you've left the GPS track, look. To your right and you'll see a road.  I couldn't find a connector so bushwhacked across.  That puts you back on track.

I'm in Sparwood and leaving soon using the Fernley Alternate.  I and my wife have been trying to assess the route from Sparwood to Roosville.  My wife talked to a Parks Canada guy about the area after Cabin Rd or Cabin Pass.  Two bridges out and high water.  Fordable? Who knows.  I don't want to get all the thru Butt's Cabin to have to reroute.  Or to risk a fording that I ordinarily wouldn't because I don't want to turn back.  I was looking forward to Butt's Cabjn, Wigwam, and Galton.

That's it.  Later

I downloaded the MTBCAST app yesterday.  It works well on my Android. My wife is anticipating the IOS version. Thanks for putting these out, Joe.  You're on my speed dial.

Speaking of unfriendly and bear spray: http://news.yahoo.com/bear-badly-mauls-hunter-montana-005252650.html
This may be, sort of, along the route.  More likely not close.
 Chris

This looks to be at least near the course.  South of Polaris, near Bannack and the intersection with the TransAmerica trail.

Another quick question...Anyone find any info on a bike shop in Rawlins? I tried calling a place call Murray's and I get a disconnected tone. I also googled it and can't come up with anything else.
My addenda, Section 3(BC-203 2011) last updated Nov 21, 2013, Map A, says Murray's in Rawlins is closed as of Nov '13.  MattL is right in thinking that this is probably not bicycle friendly country.

Directly pulled from Parks Canada Website, as with any trail report things can change any minute or day to day. http://www.pc.gc.ca/apps/tcond/cond_e.asp?oPark=100092

This says the trail is NOT closed and fording is allowed.  I will have a staff member ride out over the next few days to test the fording potential/ discomfort level.

Also rumor has snow still on Elk pass again will confirm this later in the week.

Stay awesome.

Hopefully you/your staff member will be able to provide some current info on the fordability near the bridge.  I'm leaving ITT SoBo on Friday, 6/6.   Based on the earlier posts of the construction area being closed and uncertainty of the fordability/river level this time of year, have been considering an alternate through Canmore to mile 12 of the course (Smith-Dorian Spray Rd).

Lindsay Shepard should be taking off NOBO in just a few hours.   I see her tracker on I-10 in NM several hrs ago.

We can start Tour Tracking now.

I started that way and ended up with the 30 since there was so little price difference, at the time where ever I got it.  Don't remember where.  Some riders seem to be going towards using the GPS on their smartphone.

I have a smartphone, but intend to use the Garmin.  I guess it wouldn't hurt to figure out if and how I could load the route on my S4 phone as a backup.

Scott,
Go to USPS.com and you can find all post offices by town.  Info will include the correct address and ZIP code for addressing General Delivery as well as the physical address, hours etc of that post office.

If you're talking about riding, you can leave El Paso via Sunland Park and Santa Teresa (NM) getting on Hwy 9 across the southern border, through Columbus to Hachita then South on 81 to Antelope Wells.  This path is at least 25 miles shorter than going across I-10 then south to Hachita and Antelope Wells.

Hwy 9 is paved nicely, not too much traffic.  Traffic is mostly cross traffic from Mexico, plus there are plenty of Border Patrol types.  There are no stores after Santa Teresa until Columbus.  Then nothing again on down to Antelope Wells and back up to Separ.  There are intermittent reports of water at Hachita, depending on who you find at home.

Anywhere down that way there's potential to encounter smugglers of illegals or drugs.  That's not limited to Hwy 9 and includes Hwy 81 to Antelope Wells.

SEPAR

I stopped at Separ over the New Years holidays.  It's still kicking.  They're part of the Bowlin's chain of curio, gift, craft shops you see across I-10, I-40 and elsewhere. Great place to pickup your made in China tomahawks and head-dresses.   They may not look as dynamic and modern as a truck stop but I've never seen on closed.  They have basic food and drink, and are bike friendly.

I asked about summer hours.  They didn't have a definite answer.  They're now at 7 am to 7 pm.  Closing could move to 8 pm.  They don't stay open very late, probably since they don't have gas pumps.

If you hit there when they are closed, remember there's a water spigot at the NW corner of the building.  I'd let it run a minute before drinking since it may not be used very often.
