141  Forums / Routes / Bikepacking in the Mid-Atlantic - Routes? on: July 09, 2011, 08:21:50 AM
I'm having a hard time locating 100 - 300 mile bikepacking routes in the mid atlantic.  If anyone can point me in the right direction or has done any, your guidance would be appreciated!   Thanks
142  Forums / Question and Answer / Kinetic Energy Generator - - - for USB devices. on: July 07, 2011, 03:10:01 PM
I was researching battery power for riding and came across this and thought you all might be interested.  Seems to be perfect for anyone needing portable backup power for devices (phone, gps, camera, lights, etc.)  It's a kinetic energy generator.  Looks interesting....weighs 11 ounces...a little heavy but pretty cool.

Hey all...I'm trying to find out what you guys have found works best (i.e. light, durable, etc.) for  mounting water bottles on your front suspension forks (this is in addition to my frame bag msr).  I've seen a few "kits" like the Zefal Gizmo but if someone has experimented with these and can either point me to a good product or something they've put together themselves, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks!

Calories - - -  It depends on a bunch of variables (weight, speed, terrain, etc.) but in general 500-800/hr is a good estimate.  If you average 10mph for 175miles that's ...well, that's a lot of calories...8750-14000 calories.

Wow this is close!  I'd estimate that Kurt is about 15 miles ahead of Paul at the moment.  Really quite amazing how close for going in opposite directions.  Impressive to say the least.

I have a suspicion that Jefe is ahead of Kurt.  They were very close last night.  Maybe I'm reading the stats wrong but it looks to me like Jefe got moving almost two hours ahead of Kurt this morning.    Interesting move if he turned his spot off upon leaving.  This is getting very interesting.

Speaking of towns you are passing through...any worries at all about your ride being stolen when going into a restaurant, store, etc.?  I notice some riders carrying locks. I was thinking I would have to carry a lock (i.e.  I never leave my bike unlocked, but I live in the city...), but maybe not??

It looks like Justin has been under the Wisconsin Ave bridge in whitefish for quite some time.  I hope all is ok with him.

Danalibound - - thanks for the clarification.  I read the rule incorrectly.

For a mechanical breakdown, as long as he returns from where he stopped, he's good.

Scott - Thanks for the moving average data!  I think Mike Hall is looking good.  Additional sleep but higher average mph.  I think after a couple weeks of pushing, a little more sleep is going to be the key to maintaining the higher mph until the end.  At least it would for a normal guy like me but these guys...who knows...

Great race to follow and thanks to everyone behind allowing us to follow. I'm hooked and and contemplating a run for it next year.  One stat that would be nice to see is average moving mph in addition to overall mph.

Thanks again!
