Even though it is our passion it is still a pretty small niche market. REI is ok but it is not bleeding edge when it comes to bikes, packs and gear for our sport. In fact in regards to even camping and backpacking there are cottage industries out there doing a lot better job than the " big boys" Such as Revelate, Z-packs and tarptent. I don't really know what Revelate could really patent? They do sell their gear wholesale so I imagine they could end up at REI as well.

Awesome race between Blake and Eric!! Blake had a 12 mile lead last night but Eric closed the gasp and is now a mile or so in front. Fun to watch!

Has there ever been a categorization of all the climbs on the Tour Divide like the UCI does in Road Racing? how many cat 1 or 2 climbs etc.?

Where the two routes join up in the west is right about where you will start smelling the meth cooking. It'll be pretty strong given that it will almost guaranteed be over 100 degrees with 90%+ humidity and a brisk 30mph cross/headwind. At least it's really flat, though. ;-)
At that point of the race, you might need a little pick me up!

This is great, thank you. I have a question about why you simplfy the tracks (keep in mind I am very un-educated in the GPS world to date). I have an old Garmin etrex vista HCX and would certainly need to have the file broken down to fit in the unit's 'saved tracks' area of memory (this wording is right from the topofusion upload tutorial) - but this unit also takes a SD card - could I not put the whole un-simplified track on it? Or is the SD card primarily used to hold maps - not tracks?
thanks

Robin. Many Garmin units can only take a track of a maximum of 500 points, but they can take 20 tracks, hence simplifying and splitting.

Forums / Question and Answer / Re: Revelate Designs Sweet roll vs Harness
|

Different tools for different jobs IMO. Sweetroll is a convenient, attached drybag, dual ended access and the pocket remains attached, but cannot deal with large and bulky items (think 40 below bag and a z-lite, or packraft and paddle) so ideal for a bag and a pad, some clothes etc. Harness excels with larger loads. I use sweetroll on the fargo (woodchippers), 29er and fatbike for summer trips, the harness for winter fatbike, with a large drybag, so I can detach the drybag and unpack/pack easier - especially with a large winter bag and layers. Get both Freezing is about my limit! 40 below bag? Not for this wimp!

I had a harness and thought it was a PITA to use. We bought a sweet roll and it is much superior in my opinion. You can unhook it pretty easily from the bike but I see no need to. With openings on both sides it is easy to get to your stuff and it fold up and clips easily. You can also buy an optional front pouch that will fit on the front of the sweet roll.

It might be your controller. Ours tops out at 1 amp, where my old one .5 amp. Also mostly road riding so the average speed and output are greater. You can also reduce draw by doing airplane mode, closing unused apps, screen brightness, etc.
