There was a singletrack reroute at the end the "happy" roads. It was new with flags still out and very nice. If they are going to make it all like that it should be sweet.

Kurts split from Mogollon rim to Flag is blowing my mind. The lava rock road stuff that begins after the nice singletrack after crossing the highway near ranger station is a soul sucking brutal joint. Kurt would have probably crushed Nino Schurter that day lol.

The whole 90 plus miles is a really nice ride not in the race. For Kurt to do it like that after crushing course at near record pace and then drop the hammer there? Man that is legend type stuff right there.

And then to blast to the finish in 21ish hrs from the south rim? On no sleep?

Best effort ever Kurt? Neals Ctr record run is impressive. Mike Halls TD record ride is too. Kato dropping the hammer on Neal and Jayp is the only thing in my mind that can trump what Kurt just did to the AZT.

I did it! Finished at 1:13pm. Don't care what time i got at all.

This one is for David Goldberg. I never got a chance to say goodbye to him and I tried so hard
To not quit just to be able to be here at the finish where Dave left me a note in 2013 congratulating me on a 3rd run.

To all the folks out there who are a part of this race i thank you
Its the best feeling on earth to be at state line for a 6th time.

Dave I had the kind of day you worry could happen
500 calories left
Thru away the bivies to hit road hard
Ranger sends me to trail
Trail eats me alive
I put on all clothes and rain gear to ride 35 miles into a straight headwind
With no legs in complete shut down mode couldn't do my three crank and spin trick all that much
At north country store owner is there just like in 2010 and 2013 np food just starting the opening process
Goldberg quit on the wind right there that guy drove him out in 2016
Had to ride right by that dying inside knowing the whole race i was thinking about
David and how much he meant to me and here I was gonna quit right at
The same spot The wind had me dead to rights
At mile 8 dh into town was still headwind
Stomach then went down hard
I had to dig deep today
Woke up expecting a parade
That's how hard this race can be huh ?

In Jacob lake
Totally broken down mentally
But i made it got a room gonna stay here eat breakfast even at 8am then finish up
I understand there are rules in the park - but I was treated like a criminal and with a hostile attitude.
I will never spend a dime in any national park ever again that's for sure

On the flip side now i can have a victory party chill out in tour mode
And. Cruise to a record 6th finish in style. Maybe Mr ranger was just trying to help me out lol.

Add some strap/webbing/drawcord/paracord to "cinch" the bag to the post and test to ensure clearance. You should have ordered his Ripsey bag that is made for low clearance and small frames ( I make a lower profile one that doesnt attach to post at all so I know what you are looking for).

38  Forums / DIY / Make Your Own Gear (MYOG) / Re: feedbag/question on using foam for lining on: March 14, 2018, 07:54:59 AM
If one was crafty and smooth you could glue the bias tape or grosgrain on lightly with seam sealant or quilters spray and after drying sew the whole shebang together. That may work for home machines better than trying to learn binding which is the hardest part of bike bag sewing IMO. Even faux bar tacks are not hard to master compared to binding that looks correct. One could simply cut strips of light material sew the edges down and glue that homemade bias tape on too (remember to cut on the 45 bias and sew the pieces together on a 45 bias as well). After final seam, it would look double stitched and neat if one was on their game.

What I would do with a home machine to make it look professional is buy the Sailrite binder attachment and bind grosgrain on the 4 layers of material and the 2 layers of foam. Problem is a lot of home machines cant do that its too thick to sew through correctly. They can handle one layer of foam and freak out on two. The solution is probably what you have already figured out. All of the shape to a Revelate gas tank or feedbag comes from binding the 6 layers inside out. Its hard to get around this basic principle I have two industrial machines that i setup to handle binding one never does anything but that. I have never had a home machine do the 6 layer move well i just cut out the foam too but that kills stability IMO.

edit- one trick you could do with a feedbag is to add a liner layer sewn at the top opening only it would cover the seams etc. You would sew it last inside the cuff all right side. no one would ever see the interior and the liner would be easily popped out and washed.

I had heard David was sick but didnt know of his passing. I only did the triple crown twice because a great man came up with such a brilliant idea. He kind of changed my life and made me obsessed with this sport. We drove down to the 2012 azt750 together with Marshal Bird. After i had finished i found a note on my car from beardog that was so neat he not only gave me props for doing it twice he left encouraging note on the chalkboard at the pumphouse in the ditch which i took a photo of. Most racers dont write notes to ones behind them but David was like that. I will never forget you man. RIP
