I had a bladder in my frame bag develop a leak on white rim once and didn't notice it for a while.  It rubbed on a zipper or something.  We were cutting it close on water - took just a bit extra in case it took longer than usual - so not noticing real fast was kind of bad.  If it had been on my back I would have noticed sooner and I've never had a bladder leak when it's on my back.  I use 2 bottles in cages, a 6 liter MSR bladder on the back,  and 3 liter platypus spare on the back if I need a full day of water now.  It sucks to have 9 liters on your back, but I feel it's safer.

Trenchfoot is WAY better than no foot.

You really should pick up some vapor barrier socks before you head up there and play with layering.  They are wierd and not very comfy.

I switched from the RBH socks to SealSkinz last year for long distance stuff.  More comfortable and they don't tear up my ankles as bad.

Thin neoprene (like Cabellas 2mm wading socks) works good for me too.

Whatever it takes to keep sweat out of that insulation.

The other thing is to keep lots of toe room.  The Lakes are not that awesome for toe room...

Pretty hard to get off the trail right there.  There's a CT sign about every 50 feet until you cross that road on the descent after the pass.

That is so amazing to me.  I can ride my unicycle about 1 block before my legs are burning and my nuts hurt.

I was hoping someone would steal my bike in BV.  At least until that 20,000 calories I ate at K's had less desire to become vomit...

It sat outside the City Market for at least 40 minutes with 2 other bikes and no one watching them.

Wow.  I sold everything EXCEPT those rims.  I have no idea what they are worth.

Tell me what you are thinking $$$ wise.  I'll do a little digging also.  I think we can come to an agreement.

I must have forgot.

$2,200.

More than a new Mukluk, less than an aluminum Fatback, but so much sweeter than both.

Also - it's King headset.  I forgot that too.

Lastly, I am asking people to consider DQing themselves in order to prove to the FS that we can actually read and obey a reasonable regulation--so that they don't have justification for shutting down the CTR in the future. There's nothing more to it.

Does the FS have the authority to keep anyone off of the CT?

I disagree.

I love this!!  @timroz, hope you were joking with the " ... just plain weird" line.  I'm probably biased because this spectator happens to be my sister coming out

That's different for sure.  Random people driving 24 hours to watch strangers go by on a bike is weird.  I'll be less judgemental in my next life...

So now I suppose someone will start the "moral support" argument?
36  Forums / Ultra Racing / Re: 2011 CTR Planning on: July 27, 2011, 08:14:38 AM
Yeah - I can tell you care a lot more about a lot of things than I do.  And by no means am I saying that in a bad way.

I just think that anyone that cheats in this type of race (no one watching to actually SEE if you cheat) is a loser and not worth my time to worry about.  I don't understand why people care so much.  But that's probably more about me than you.
37  Forums / Ultra Racing / Re: 2011 CTR Planning on: July 27, 2011, 07:23:23 AM
I was just up there a couple of weeks ago. The short answer: not my cup of tea. There's no way that I'd ride it.

The longer answer: the road is very narrow and twisty for about ten miles, with no shoulder at all. Lots of trucks pulling trailers. I think that it would be the most dangerous part of the entire CTR!

Thanks for the input on the road Toby.  I'll stay off of it.  I disliked 285 in the day.  No way I'd do it in the dark.  This one sounds worse.

Just messing with you on the paraniod comment.  I saw some "interesting" stuff also.  I just figure it's none of my business.  I'm not out there to enforce rules on other people, nor do I care if they follow them.

Paranoid?  It seems odd to assume that because you saw some trash it was because somebody was handing out food to CTR racers.
