7am has been mentioned a few times throughout this forum but I want to verify it's the correct start time.
22  Forums / Question and Answer / Re: TOGS? on: May 07, 2015, 06:48:09 AM
I've had the togs for a while now and I really like them.  I leave them just loose enough so I can rotate them around when I want.  It's nice having another hand position or two.  They never come off my bike and I've never had an issue with any kind of bruising from them.

Hey everyone..  Tom W from Aztec here...  Got another chest infection like i did in the CTR 2 years ago.  Cant get any air to the legs..  Stayed at freeman last night with no change...  Gonna have to call it quits here or end up trashing my lungs...  Anyone happen to be in the area and headed to picketpost today?

Anyone know the average amount of time for middle of the packers to hit Patagonia from Parker?  I can't remember what I did last year... Except that I was pretty slow!!

Hopefully the ridge doesn't lose any of it's charm!  I kind of liked the ruggedness of it!

A couple of us did it last weekend and left my truck at Horsethief Campground.  It was 15 bucks a night but was nice to have the truck in a SOMEWHAT secure area. Started my trip odometer at the dumpster outside the gate and the total loop was 101 and some change.
29  Forums / Question and Answer / Re: Dual or Hard tail for rides like GDBR on: March 26, 2015, 07:03:25 AM
I ride a spearfish and love it.  I would have to say that most of it comes down to storage on the bike.  My framebag doesn't have near the space a bag on a hardtail does so I always end up with more weight on my back or look like a gypsie with crap strapped everywhere.

This might be what you've already tried but if you transferred it to your gps already go Setup, Map, Map information and make sure it's enabled...

I run Maxxis ardents tubeless loaded with stans.  If I remember right I put 4 ounces or more in each tire.  I did carry 2 tubes with stans last year but I might chance only taking 1 this year.   Last year I made the 300 without a flat but I bet I had 50 holes in both tires by the time I was done.
32  Forums / Ultra Racing / Re: Missouri Trails versus Arizona Trail on: February 13, 2015, 01:46:57 PM
Yep, I've ridden in both places.  All of my riding was in the Ozarks and I do remember some of it being rocky and steep.  I would have to say the Arizona trail is going to be a good bit more unforgiving because EVERYTHING is sharp and just a small mistake and you have 50 needles in your tire or body.  Lack of water sources is a game changer as well.

I prefer tubeless but there are plenty of guys who use tubes and they love to argue about which is better.  I figure what ever you are comfortable with is the way to go.

I'm a big fan of the SRAM 1x stuff.  I know it's overkill for most of you but I have the 26t direct mount wolftooth ring up front and after a few rides I love it.  I would say the bottom line is that it's all about conditioning and you can do any trail with whatever gears you happen to have if you train enough...  Obviously if you have bad knees or something it's a different story.

Of course you could do it with a map, cue sheets and a compass but it's always a good idea to have a reliable backup just in case!  Crazy things happen when you're smoked in the middle of the night!
36  Forums / Classifieds / SOLD - Tarptent Moment DW on: July 28, 2014, 10:23:08 AM
Just got this in the mail and it has only been setup inside on carpet.  Plans changed for the CTR this year so I don't need it and figure someone else might be interested.  It was seam sealed by the folks at tarptent and comes with the optional crossing pole for free-standing capability.  Both poles are CF.  Will take 310.00 shipped or 300.00 if you can pick it up. Located near Cedar Hill NM, just south of Durango, CO.  Check it out at tarptent.com!
37  Forums / Ultra Racing / Re: brake pads - organic or metallic? on: July 17, 2014, 06:23:07 AM
I run the XTR brakes with resin pads.  I'm sure the metallic ones would last longer but the constant squeal was too much for me.

I was wondering the same thing about Katie and Sam?

Katie and Sam are crushing it on a tandem!  Amazingly strong riders and I hope they make the whole length!
