Crocs, but that homemade insole deal looks pretty sweet.
I would have a tough time taking someone seriously walking around my camp with breadbags on their feet!
"Hey Johnny Ryall, nice shoes!"

Forums / Classifieds / Re: 15% off Garmin at Nashbar

Actually Garmin products are NOT on sale at Nashbar. Garmin patrols their pricing very carefully, and prices advertised are the pricing allowed for everyone whether online or in your LBS. What many online companies do is bump up the suggested retail price to make it look as though they are on sale, but in actuality it's the price mandated by Garmin. Sorry...the Edge 200 MSRP is $149.99 and I definitely got 15% off that. I can show you my receipt ;-) You are right that Garmin controls pricing well, but this was a nice & rare deal. It's a moot point anyway since the sale has been over for a long time.

Pricepoint has the 25.4 Titec H-Bar for $38 right now. Normally $90ish. The longer I stick with 25.4 the cheaper my handlebars get!

I was all ready to get a Salsa Fargo 3 ($1399) until I ran across the Surly Ogre ($1499). IMO the Surly is a better spec for the price and even more versatile.
I've decided to go with the Ogre as soon as I decide on the size. 5'11" w/ 88cm true inseam/PBH and 79 cm saddle height. Very conflicted about the 18" vs. 20".

Not croaked, but I bet Aaron Ralston would disagree with you about the blunt versus sharp bit Skeletool for me, sharp as I can make it. Or he could have just told one person where he was going....way more important than a knife ;-)

Forums / Question and Answer / Re: Surly KM v. Motobecane Fantom

I am wondering if any of the guys recommending the KM are riding it with gears. I have heard that the horizontal rear end is a pain with gears. I had a Bianchi Sok with rear facing dropouts and brake mounted outside the rear triangle. Horrible design and it was a pain. The KM rear brake placement is much better and that alone solves 95% of the PITA factor. The Ogre designed mimicked the Fargo and put the brake inside the rear triangle...even better.

The Tora is not a light fork...basically a Reba with steel stanchions. With that said, I doubt the KM frame/fork combined is 4lbs heavier than the Phantom frame/Tora combo.
However, let's just assume it is 4lbs heavier....now add in your body weight, component weights, gear, water, food, etc.....in my case this would be up towards 250lbs. That 4lbs is just over 1% of the total....not really significant.
I'm not anti-bikesdirect...I think they do some decent specs for a great price.

Forums / Question and Answer / Salsa Fargo 3 vs. Surly Ogre
|
on: April 17, 2012, 05:30:53 AM

I was dead set on getting a Fargo 3 when the $$ comes through but I am now scanning the specs, etc for the Ogre and I just might go that direction.
Of course the biggest difference in the 'complete' versions is drop bars vs. flat bar.
Advantages of the Ogre - slightly better spec (headset, hubs, shifters), ss ready, 1" shorter chainstays*, steeper head angle*, canti/v-brake option, Rohloff ready.
Advantages of Fargo 3 - more bottle mounting, touring geometry, $100 lower MSRP
*suspect I will like these better on the singletrack in North Carolina, but some would prefer the Fargo geometry
Just wondering if I am missing something on the Fargo. It seems to be far more popular, but other than the drop bars and marketing, why?
