Solo. Spot is not essential, but one hell of a good idea. I pretty much always have mine with me, for my safety as well as the possibility it could help someone else. Beware those dirt roads. Loose gravel has taken me down more than once.

That looks like a great route. Any reason not to avoid more pavement from Nucla to Uravan? Looks like there are roads/teracks kind of paralleling 141 reconnecting near Tabeguache Creek.

It's a nice place to sit on the patio, chow a burger and ice cream and take in some shade during the heat of the day. I'm betting he will be rolling soon. Finishing? We'll see. Anything is possible at the right pace.

I'm so with you Scott. As hard and painful as it can be, it is really so simple and beautiful in execution. Just GO! Wishing I was applying what I learned this year. Pretty amazed so many of the lead pack are 750 'ers. Always amazed how fast some of you folks can cover ground. Go pack! Suffer well!

I skip the sun sleeves and just wear a loose, light colored long sleeve shirt. I rode the 750 last year covered head to toe and was pretty content most of the time. I second the bandanna as well. You can cover the back of your neck with it, and if you drape it right, you can make little side blinders. Haven't done the velcro thing yet but have thought it many times. Sunscreen for face, neck and wrists only. Wetting it and putting it under your helmet is nice, but it dries too fast to do regularly (same goes for the cooling towel). I rode and hiked in a pair of Shimano mt34's. Removed the cleats for the Canyon (carried an extra cleat and bolt or two). If you feel a hot-spot (pre-blister) don't wait until a 'good' spot to address it. Do something immediately - there is too much HAB and hiking to take a chance on foot misery. I am still dreaming of Desert cycling pants. 'Tights like' in the seat area, but loose and light from ankles to thighs.

Handlebars, along with tent, sleeping pad, rain gear, and cook pot/cup for me. That is for non-race incidence. For the AZT 750, I skipped tent because weather looked favorable. I've taken the same tent for multi-days in Utah, Wyoming and Washington , and have very much enjoyed it's space and protection. I am expecting to give the CT a run this year and figure the tent will be a day before race decision, depending on likelihood of precip. It's a few pounds but worth it , unless you are hoping to go under 5 days(IMO). I worried more about lbs in the past but you give and take'em every time you refuel, hydrate. I like to be prepared to hunker if absolutely necessary. Just me. try what feels right, evaluate, adjust, and enjoy.

Take me. I'll ride slower than you (naturally), and likely slightly eraticaly, thereby distracting the copters, while you make your get away. don't worry about me, I have skills. it will be a blast.

Awesome. Just to clarify, you suggest doing my loop in a counter clock wise direction, correct? I checked on Robertson's pasture, Forest Service site says closed to motorcycles Oct 1-May 15th. So I will be watching weather closely. As of now there is no rain/snow forecast for Monticello 4 days prior to when we would start (Nov 3). If things look sketchy I will use your alternate route, likely starting and finishing in Hanksville. If i figure correctly that would make it about a 170 mile loop. What do you think about that for 3 days riding? We will be riding regular mountain bikes, no fat tires. How is the sand on that loop, especially that long wash just south of Hanksville that takes you East, assuming clockwise travel. Thanks.
