i may have missed this in an earlier post. but who is the woman with the dog and trailer? any updates on those two? is this the first time a cute pup has been a part of this?
I think she might have been just along for the ride/touring, and not racing/no spot tracker. At least - by a process of elimination she didn't seem to be one of the females I didn't recognise from the list!

I'm looking at the four 50+ women on the course. Lisa Downing and Rosemary Lee are ITTing northbound; wonder what happened to them just before Salida. ....
Lisa was hit by some heat-related health issues, they had to take a couple of days off, and I don't think they'll be riding the full course now, but skipping a section. Still an awesome effort unfolding by all the awesome women out on the course!

That would be a mental letdown, to have to climb back up to the Smith-Dorrien road. Now it looks like his spot is back in Banff, anyone know what the issue is?
Apparently he had a shredded tyre, and then a failed fork.

for people new to banff, and looking for some meal suggestions...
I'll add a recommendation for a couple of my favourites, Wildflour Bakery and Barpa Bill's.

You would have to be pretty unlucky with the post for the maps not to arrive within 3 weeks at the very most. I ordered mine to the Canadian Rockies and they took less than 2 weeks to arrive. I wouldn't stress too much about it, you should be fine to order them now and have them arrive in time.

I plan to simply make a list of a few points, high points, re-supply, etc. and create a picture for each major leg of the route.
Tom, I've done something pretty similar - when I'm riding a set route, I really like having a visual idea of the elevation profile ahead, and I find it much easier to understand when I'm tired than numbers or words. Mine mostly has camping spots, and water/supply spots marked on it though, as well as passes. Colour coded lines for different stuff Also, the National Weather Service 3-month outlook is here: http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/predictions/long_range/seasonal.php?lead=2 - hot and muddy this year? The chicken entrails I was consulting earlier suggested hot and dry.

I've been feeling a little bit guilty about glorying over the miserable ski season, but it looks pretty promising for a low snowpack year.

Is anyone else training with one of these? I find the extra training weight is great - as is the singing and conversation. They do require a substantial amount of maintenance during the ride, although mine is surprisingly tolerant about keeping moving for 1.5 hours or so without a break.

How do you guys deal physically with the heat in NM? I'm from a mild climate and have no experience in endurance racing in the heat (i.e. over 32 degrees centigrade). I know I need to carry (& drink) extra water, sunscreen, buff, arm coolers - but what other hot weather adjustments or precautions should I be aware of?
One random little thing I like to sometimes do if riding when it's super hot - a ziplock bag filled with ice cubes in your jersey pocket can be quite nice. You can usually get someone to fill it up for you in town. Then once it's all melted - you have a bag full of ice cold water to drink! (Or sometimes a wet patch on your jersey, but either way it's kind of nice)

Two-legged creeps are far more prevalent and less predictable than bears or mountain lions. The fact that this issue comes up about 1% as often as bear banter only proves that most people play up their own fears, rather than review logical risk assessment. Or ... maybe this is just because there are still far less women out there doing a solo bike tour that involves long stints of riding through remote areas at night, alone, and camping at random spots in the woods.
I'd be interested in chatting about some of the more uniquely female issues of the race - because yep, I've considered I'll feel a bit weird about broadcasting where I'm sleeping alone in a tent, and being a solo female traveller is definitely sometimes uncomfortable...

I'm with ABfolder on this one - although the chance of coming across a cranky bear is hopefully small, and bear spray can be heavy and annoying, it has the enormous benefit that it might help stop me from becoming dead. I usually keep it in my jersey centre pocket on short rides, but I've found it tends to irritate my back if I have it there for a full day in the saddle - I think I'll start using the scat belt for long days, it's quite a comfortable way to carry it without having to think about it. Making enough noise so that bears know you are coming is never a bad idea though.
Oh, and bear spray has the added benefit that although my partner is totally happy for me to do the Tour Divide, he'd probably lock me in the basement for the month of June before he let me consider riding it without bear spray.

I'm no expert, but I think people don't use the boost cable because right now it only allows trickle charging while the light is also being powered. So it's not a very efficient way to get anything charged.
With the Revo light plus an E-Werk/Plug/etc, you can also install a switch in the set up, so you're either powering a light (and maybe something on the boost cable at the same time) OR you're charging/powering a device, with the light off.

Is it fixed now? I just hit "Turn off filter", and all the data reappeared for me.

This was posted on FB earlier:
"Apparently CLM has just been airlifted to Calgary via STARS after serious accident "
No details but some kind of accident on the Trans-Canada Hwy. Please keep Crazy Larry in your thoughts!
The word is that it was a bike crash of some sort, and last update said he's in a serious but stable condition at Foothills Hospital in Calgary. Heal fast Crazy Larry!
