Fully loaded for me it took 6.5 hours at a relaxed, steady pace. If you check out trackleaders for the 2014 CTR, you can see how long it took other people.

That's terrible to hear. I rode Kenosha to Breck yesterday and it was definitely slippery and nasty. There are some downed trees the whole way down Georgia pass.

Based on how you define the movingHours, that could provide a much higher value than the 4000-5000 calories per day I've seen referenced on this forum.

So that 44K calories you reference could be on the higher side. I'm sure you're all aware of this, I just wanted to throw that disclaimer out there before someone launches into the wilderness using that model as a reference.

They're great right now. I rode from Waterton to nearly the end of Seg 3 couple weeks ago. There were some downed trees but I think they're cut now. As a word of warning, the Buff Creek trails will be crawling with ultra-runners Saturday

Yeah in my figure up there it is actually 12.something. I have a more updated model I can run again and post when I get home. The plot in the new one has finer resolution and some accuracy updates

I created this MATLAB model of CTR pace and calorie planning in my spare time recently and wanted to share it with people that might geek out over this stuff like I do.

The model still has some inaccuracies, and we all know how plans quickly fall apart out there, but this was a nice mental exercise to familiarize myself with route planning going southbound. It was built using historical pacing data from a few riders, and roughly agrees with their SPOT tracks.

Selling my Pika with about 400 miles on it. A little perma-dirt on the bottom, but no tears/rips/damage that I can find.

I think the reason nobody has answered your post yet is that there are lots of discussions on other threads about what bikes and suspensions people use for the CTR. Check out the search button and see what you can find. The short answer is virtually any bike will work.

It's hard to estimate that without knowing how fast you move when you're awake. You can look at past CTR results on trackleaders.com to see how much different people slept and how long it took them to finish.

What would you say were the biggest mistakes you made?

My biggest mistakes:

• Not enough specific training (loaded bike training)
• Multiple navigation errors (One very bad one)
• Not enough chamois lube
• Too much food that required stopping to eat
• Sawyer inline filter was too hard to drink from

I could go on and on...

I still have some numbness in my hands too, but I can't stop thinking about trying this damn race again. It's somewhat annoying because now I know exactly how much this race hurts, but I'm still drawn to it. I just want to fix the mistakes I made last year and go into it much better prepared.

This advice is coming from a rookie who scratched in BV this year, but I learned a lot from my time out there. I rode a full suspension with no backpack. It was absolutely amazing to not have anything on my back (ventilation, freedom of movement, quick clothing changes). But there were very many occasions where I hated having all the weight on the bike: the HAB up to Indian Trail Ridge, some massive downed trees in Junction Creek, hundreds of rather large rocks I had to lift the bike over. Like everyone has said, experiment and see which manner of suffering seems the best to you.

All in all, if I get feeling back in my hands and if I convince myself to go out there again, I'll be riding a FS bike with a backpack.

If anyone found some Smith lenses (and my chamois lube) on the ground in Segment 14, let me know. You can keep the chamois lube as a thank-you.

Does anyone else see the weirdness with the trackleaders page? It seems like all the CTR racers have been replaced with Transcontinental racers. I just want to make sure I'm not the only one seeing that.

Here's a dumb question:
When I rode through Princeton Hot Springs a few weeks ago, I forgot to stop and check out the food there. Is the store that little building inside the fenced pool area? Or is it somewhere else in the complex?

Are the Tennessee guys OK? I'm not quite sure how to interpret the tracks. Maybe they headed down the dirt road, met a car and hitched a ride to Silverton?

I never ride wet trails in normal life, but I'd have to say that after spending almost 2 years getting ready for the CTR, I'm not gonna let wet trails stop me. If I know my riding is really messing up the trail, I'll be sure to help the CTF rebuild whatever I can. (I probably should donate more time as it is)

It's an interesting question though. I guess the answer could depend on what sort of "race day" it is. If it's a race like the CTR, it probably has a lot less impact than something like the Firecracker 50 where 1000 people ride a small course.

Stefan's website has a little blurb saying the latest data book matches the CTR course. I can only assume that the GPX matches as well.
