The only food stop after Hill City is http://www.mtmeadow.com/  I passed though in the early morning last year so Hill City is were I stocked up.  You can filter water on the Deerfield trail and Deerfield Lake(spigots will be off).  Timon campground has water but it looked rusty so i just filtered from the creek there.  Iron Creek Lake should have there Spigots on in campground.  There store was closed when I rolled though at 2 in the afternoon on Sunday. Off season.

I found two Oatmeal Cookies in my pack several days after the race.  Bummer, BangHead they sure would have tasted good that last day!

Eric

One more campground to check out would be the KOA, it is one block from start of race and they probably would accept packages like Chris's camp.  Both Two Wheeler Dealer and Rushmore Mountain Sports, the two bike shops in town, would help you out two if you ask them.  If your out as early as Sunday the is a really fun Mountain Bike Race in Sundance Wyoming. http://www.scgmba.org/#!bearlodge-mtn-classic/c1vj5  Getting a ride to the race would be no problem.

By hitting the play button on last years race you can follow the racers and see where they stopped to rest. You can also control the speed of replay.  Last year for the race we had very hot weather.  It was close to 90 for the first 3 days.  I made it just passed Sturgis the first day.  The sun did kick my butt for sure.  The average temp for that time of year is 73 degrees for Rapid City so I would guess between 63 and 73 for the hills.  Freezing is possible up in the higher elevations at night.

Nice to meet Norb and Rick at the ATR last month. Yes, the ATR is Harder!  That first 300 was very awesome desert riding, though all the cactus and sand washes.  Still think about it every day.  I would say the Black Hills route is 95 to 98 percent ride able.  We do have a lot of smooth dirt trails but like every race we got some crappy rocky trails too. In Custer State Park on Horse Creek Trail you will push up one mile and down one mile.

JeffM.

I have no official start list. Was planning to just use trackleaders for that.  I will be sending them the final track this weekend and then shortly after we can sign up on that.  Still guessing around 10 to start.

Expedition.  My favorite definition is from Wikipedia, using the word expedition in reference to Bicycle touring. A long-distance type of bicycling, that includes expedition bicycling, which are typically long journeys over tough terrain.

Cheers

Yes the course will be supported by trackleaders.  Spot rentals will also be provided by them if you do not have your own.  Will put a link up around the first week of September for all the trackleaders stuff. Thanks.
