PUR Hiker or tablets, depending on the availability of water. I have had the PUR Hiker since my backpacking days and love it.

A few more pics (2010 version): http://chadfbrown.blogspot.com/2010/05/casner.html

The steep, rocky doubletrack squeezes through the Sycamore Wilderness (show on the left side of this picture) and the Red Rock Wilderness (right side).

~25 miles into the ride, the first sings of red rock appeared

As usual, pictures never really do justice for how steep the ride is. All 13 riders chugged along, some staying a bit longer to take some pictures.

More pics on the above link.

Did the movie arrive yet?
244  Forums / Ultra Racing / Re: Coconino 350 Race June 26th? on: May 13, 2010, 11:41:26 AM
I think I am going to do the 250 at "race pace" then maybe tour up to the Grand Canyon and back. Same dates, just an ITT.  headbang

Would that be of interest to you?
245  Forums / Ultra Racing / Re: Coconino 350 Race June 26th? on: May 07, 2010, 02:04:33 PM
I am thinking about sometime in early June for a fun run at this, long days on the bike with plenty of sleep. Anyone interested?

One possible time period: June 8-12.

Good job all riders! It's amazing Kurt's at the rim. I'm wondering how the Spot coverage will be on the descent?

Looks like he is going down into the abyss now....
247  Forums / Ultra Racing / Re: 2010 AZTR discussion thread on: May 07, 2010, 10:20:26 AM
Looks like Kurt is coming up on the South Rim in the near future. I can't imagine the gut-check he'll feel when he gets a visual of what's in front of him for the day!

Gut check indeed, but excited nonetheless. He is almost done.  headbang Imagine if you were heading south bound and had to start off the ride with a hump like that. Which would you prefer?

Kurt is closing in on the Grand Canyon, good timing if he wants to make a run at it today. Weather seems to be in the high 60s today.

Keep on chugging Kurt!

Did Ian bail? His spot seems to be nearing LV. Did I miss a post about this?

Great pictures. I was just thinking how funny it is that we all use the exact same gear...bike, backpack, shoes, gloves, etc. I wonder if he is going to try to ditch the poles at the North Rim.

However - for the first timer there will also be a "Dixie-Lite" course ....

"Dixie Lite"...I like how that sounds. It could be the name of a microbrew that could be enjoyed after the race. As race organizer, Dave, do you want to look into making some beer for the after partay?

Keep the calls coming Mark. What a difference between the Mormon Lake call-in and the Flagstaff call-in. You can tell he is loving life and heading to the GC South Rim!

"Pre-release DVDs and Blu-ray discs will ship in May."

That's all I've got

I will work on it on my end on where we could show it downtown. We could also show a quick slide show from the AZT 300 race and Coconino, chat about bikepacking ST in Arizona.

Its on pre-order, I'll let you know when it shows up

Any idea on estimated delivery date? Perhaps we could turn this into a charity event for Heidi Clayton.

Inspirational stuff...I will be glued to my trackleader.com for the next few days!

Matt Lee he's coming for you next Wink

Let's hope not, he needs to focus on races with some singletrack so he can start to take out your records, DaveH.  thumbsup

Re: Tucson Showing

If anyone buys the movie, we can show it on my digital projector. I think we need to make a Bars on Bikes happen in the month of may and show it on the side of a building downtown, perhaps Bison Witches (friends of the GF).

Jefe is the reigning king of hike a bike.  Kurt needs his A game STAT!

We need a Gambling-Bikepacking website....Scott, could you take care of that please?

OMG.  Bettr'n pay per view.  He has got to know.  He's yanking all our chains!

He has to know...he is cruising!

I think it is 7 miles from where you drop into the singletrack at the top of Picket Post to the end, right? He must have something like 12 miles to go.
258  Forums / Ultra Racing / Re: 2010 AZTR discussion thread on: May 03, 2010, 03:24:04 PM
We just got a new point! I'd day he has it in the bag.

...suspense builds as the walls of Box Canyon prevent any SPOT signals from making it to the constellation...

Less than three hours left. A SPOT point would be useful right now also. Seems possible at this point that he could beat the record, although that 4k of climbing in those 20 miles from Box to the Picket Post TH is a doozy.

Very exciting! This is going to be close.

It will be interesting to see how what happens after Superior, motor on at the same pace or slow it down a bit?
