I'd love to see a By Country category on Trackleaders. I'm sure there are many countries represented these days in the TD as this things grows...

Howdy All,

Ovando is gearing up for the first of the riders to be arriving today.  With the projection into Lincoln in about 13 hours or so, we are trying to determine when they will be arriving Ovando.  For those in the know:  How long is the rider between Ovando and Lincoln.

Don't want to miss these guys photo opp!
Thanks!

Been waiting for the racers to get to Ovando so I could see some pics.  icon_biggrin

Always know we can count on you guys for great racer pics! Keep up the great work Angler, et al!

What's up with the chick in flip-flops? Thought it was a joke at the trailhead but there she is again at Goat Creek!

I hate cold feet

Yep, his 16 yr old daughter.  They are under "Team Rice Burner".

That is so damn cool! Good for them. I have 3 daughters...can only pray that I do something that bold with them someday.
Best of luck to them, I'll be watching Team Rice Burner now for sure!

Erin reports a park water spigot in Bryce Woodlands which is about an hour (maybe less) past Tod's. Look back in this thread for the location. <cya>I have not seen it before, but haven't looked either</cya>

I filled up here a couple years ago. Nice large park on the left and the spigot is right on the road.

Sweet - thanks for the intel

One of my favorite things to do - sign up on trackleaders! I'm official.

Hey, one question: if you don't make it to Tod's in time, can you get water from the Sevier River where it crosses the route (after turning right off HWY 89 north of the store)?

The reason people talk about specific diets is because eating candy, pastries, and other crap has left more than one person on the side of the trail puking.

Touche!

But for me it was the squirts on Segment 14 under a violent thundershower in 2012...gotta love the CTR!  icon_biggrin

How dependent on GPS do you need to be for this route (assuming you've never laid eyes on it)? I have the Nat'l Geo Trails illustrated maps to cover the route...but clearly I couldn't use those 100%. I have an old GPS rig that is slow to pan, zoom, load, etc...and chews through batteries.

Wondering if I should buy a new unit, or if I could get by with just referencing mine when needed (which is what I've done on the CT - but of course that route is pretty easy to follow) and not have it following the track all day long.

I think the real key though is making sure you are getting as many calories as you can per ounce. I've gotten my daily food regimen down to about 140 calories/ounce which is pretty good, and means I carry a little over 2 lbs of food per day (4800 kcal) This is enough for me...with the expectation that I supplement that with a big greasy meal somewhere in the mix.

You also don't want food that is hard to eat - one of my favorites is the granola, with powdered milk and nut butters, but it's a substantial meal to get down the hatch. So I usually plan on it being one of my camp meals (preferably at night, when you need to restock your fat reserves) During the day, on the move, I eat my bars and gels and candy.

I break up my day into 6 'meals'...and spread them out throughout the day.

I was never good at just buying what I needed at gas stations...so the above is assuming you are pre-packing food at the start, or shipping food along the way.

Cliff shot blocks, honey stinger gels, hostess apple pies, Skratch hydration mix in individual servings, Sunkist Fruit snacks, sunflower seeds, dried fruit, and whatever the hell you can shove in your mouth at a gas station/restaurant along the way

Granola w/powdered whole milk & nut butters, tortillas w/ pepperoni & shelf stable cheese, honey stinger waffles, gummi bears, snickers, kind bars, larabars...

I am in as well - and share many of Scott's sentiments: new trail, new test, new challenge, new area - new baby here as well (#3 though - so yeah, I need some time out on the trail - ha!)

I haven't done a lot of riding lately - coincidentally enough due to Achilles issues (the CT must really be an Achilles killer!) but I'm excited to get back out there...

I am hoping to throw my hat in the ring as well. Not confirmed yet though.

FYI - I just talked to Tod's Country Store and they close at 8pm (open at 7am)...this seems earlier than previously reported on the site. Looking at past splits, it could be tight making it on Day 1 before closing.

The more I think about the resupply points...the more I think to just carry 2.5 days of food and not worry about it.

200 miles(ish) with only a rear brake. A 20 mile, 12 hour day. Manhandling bike down 2500 foot descent.

Sounds like a true adventure, nicely done  icon_biggrin

Anyone got ideas for something north of the Fruita area up toward Rangeley/Dinosaur/Vernal?

Was thinking of how to extend a Kokopelli ride north.

Seems like some interesting country in NW Colorado that I've never seen.

Thanks for any thoughts.
256  Forums / Ultra Racing / Re: 2015 CTR: Durango to Denver vs Denver to Durango on: December 11, 2014, 02:37:58 PM
BV to Durango is much harder than Waterton to BV.

So if you go Southbound, lot of potential to hit the wall in BV as many have done (myself included). You think, 'man this has already been pretty damn hard...now I have 180 miles with no resupply, far more remote, a shit ton more hike-a-bike, and a lot more rugged'.

I have heard that a higher percentage finish going northbound due to this (you get the hard stuff done early, while still somewhat fresh)...but can't back that up.

Genius move to add the call-ins!

As usual, spectacular stuff Aaron.

I was just up on there too...as I asked the trackleaders guys to put me on the general CT Tracker, but they put me on the race one.

Either way, I had a pretty awesome ride from Marshall Pass to Durango last week.

I got caught at sunset just reaching treeline at the Indian Trail Ridge, and ended up doing the knife edge in the dark...yikes!

So I am planning on finishing (long overdue) the CT next week, starting at Marshall Pass on Monday.

Pretty wet right now, and supposed to be through early next week. Any thoughts/intel on conditions in the San Juan or Cochetopa Hills? Snow flying up there? I see some snow on the higher peaks above 12,000 here in Park county - but just a dusting that I assume will melt off.

Thanks
